Downloaded and using latest build on win 2k laptop and Win ME desktop. No real problems encountered and the build seems very stable. Getting Netscape plugins installed is an issue with the path the plugins look for (must be Netscape/plugins) will not install in kmeleon/plugins.
One test site I always is http://www.mazdausa.com . Kmeleon and Mozilla both fail on this site even though it says it works with Netscape 4.7x. This site uses pretty much everything on its start page from java to flash to streaming sound to who knows.. Anyway, it works with IE.

Other than these minor issues, this release is real nice.

"Kmeleon and Mozilla both fail on this site even though it says it works with Netscape 4.7x."

There is your answer. The page is not standards compliant. They have code for IE, and some code for Netscape 4.7. Any other browser they will not allow you to enter.

The way I see it, they must not want you to see the page if they can not be bothered to code it correctly.

Andrew:

Thank-you, and Ulf for fixing the bug, within macros.cfg . . . the ability to assign a menu description, allowing a 'right align', for instance:

menu = "Dictionary Lookup\tCtrl+L"

I appreciate the fix, and, it works. Thanks for the effort.

Dunno if that has been reported before, but I'm sometimes getting crashes running the latest beta (488) that I didn't see with the beta that was built on Moz 1.0 (see error message below).

Can't repro them (and never tried it for a long time, sorry), but they seem to happen if I load a lot of pages at once in the background, e.g. if I open ten links from one page to load in bg.

It's **always** at 0000:39393939, system is Win 95 OSR 2.x:

I noticed that only fully qualified domain names will work in the URL bar just a moment ago -- kmeleon.sourceforge.net doesn't work, but http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ does. I press enter after typing a bad URL, and it just refuses to do anything until I add the http:// to the beginning.

Hi.
Just installed k-meleon 0.6.5 Beta(downloaded tonight GMT), but it crashes on startup.
I see nothing of it, just the error message below.
The Loader loads, though.

Reading previous posts by OgO, I see that the problem *can* be related to version
6.00.8168.0 of MSVCRT.DLL, which I don't have.

I installed everything the installer was preconfigured to.
Then uninstalled, and reinstalled at the same destination.
No-go!
Perhaps you'd like a watson - report, if so, contact me at

Toman,

I have had exactly the same problem after installing K-m 0.65 on a clean Win98SE system.

Timoch has also reported the same problem in this thread....also after doing an installation on a clean Win98SE system.

<a href="http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=4986&t=4957">http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=4986&t=4957</A>;

I have updated MSVCRT.DLL but it still not working.

has anybody having this problem tried editing the /profiles/default/xxxxxxxx.slt/prefs.js file, and setting all the plugin loading prefs to 'false'? if that works, try enabling them one at a time, restarting k-meleon each time, and seeing which one causes the problem... of course you'll want to disable the loader first...smiling smiley

I'm al little gun shy on this version; it even froze up my puter and it took two reboots to get my desktop back. I repeatedly got the above error message, even after several reinstalls.

I had tried installing the lates msvcrt.dll from MS, but to no avail. Good thing the old .6 installer is available, otherwise I might have to be using IE explorer now. I'll be watching until this bug gets worked out before I'll install another version

Anyone having this problem and not on Windows 95/98?

Po,

You are brilliant! smiling smiley

By setting each plugin to false, I was able to narrow down the problem and k-m0.65 is now working fine on my Win98 PC.

The problem was the opera hotlist (I don't even have an opera hotlist, so I guess I just blindly accepted every plugin offered to me by the installer).

The fix was to set the following entry in prefs.js to "false"....

user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.load",false);

Once again, thanks for your help Po.

that's not brilliant, that's just basic troubleshooting protocol... smiling smiley

particularly with something as potentially complex, but fortunately very modular, as this browser. i've had similar startup errors where it turned out to be that MSVCRT didn't like one of the variable names used in the macros.cfg... wierd stuff happens.

i'll mention to Ulf about the hotlist plugin, since i'm not sure he scans the forums very often...

Hey WTF have you done with Gecko?!?! You bastards how dare you?!?!
This is not happening! This is NOT happening!

Freakin' blazing fast rendering & startup plus low memory usage. WTF I say again!

You just made my day, I see now that it's not Gecko that's resource hog.

BIG THANKS to all the developers. you'll have one more bugreporter/nagger now ;P
Long way to go to get all the UI goodies Moz has but even 0.7 will be awesome. And damnit, you make ditching Win32 one bit harder again winking smiley

thnx thnx thnx thnx

But linux has Galeon (GTK/GNOME) and Skipstone (GTK Only)

http://galeon.sourceforge.net/
http://www.muhri.net/skipstone/

Anybody working on QT only or QT/KDE geck browsers

Oh, and a quick glance showed at least Galeon supports tabs

And if you meant for Mac there is Chameleon I think its called though I think ive heard comments of it not bveing mature enoiugh yet.

I do appreciate and love K-Meleon, the Beta is the only browser I use (except when my stupid Psych class website doesnt work)

It seems to me like the crash lays not with the hotlist -plugin. (Not alone at least..)
Try setting
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.favorites.load", false);
and
user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.hotlist.load", true);
and the hotlist works! Now you can point k-meleon to the hotlist in your Opera-dir...

hmm... plugins not playing nice together?

Ulf, who developed the hotlist and other plugins, has requested that discussions related to it take place on the dev list... it's more likely to be seen by people in a position to fix things that way. smiling smiley

I know, I've been discussing this(the plugin-crash) with him over the past days, and during debugging we found this.

Just wanted to inform the ones running Opera that they can use their hotlist in k-meleon if they disable favorites. smiling smiley
