new search engines
Posted by: ndebord

The wiki list of search engines could use expansion, so here are some of the engines I have added to the existing list.

Names are arbitrary on my part. For instance, Scholar refers to Google Scholar and Searchs refers to CNET's Search engine.

Enjoy.

jsnj,

You're right. My cut and paste wasn't too accurate. My goal is to fill in the alphabet in the Wiki search engines!

Another new search engine with an intersting twist is Jux2. The following setup automatcally searches Google and Yahoo. There is a user config on the website to add a third engine of your choice, but I don't know how to implement that here.

Also, it lists which search engine found your search query.

MENUS
macros(Jux2)

MACROS

Jux2{
&OldSearch; $search = "Jux2";
$eng = "http://www.jux2.com/search.php?q=";;

Anybody care to try and make the new Microsoft MSN Search engine work with KM?

This is what I tried and it does not work.

Here is a nice way to use the search engine macros to get weather. Search by
zip code or City or City, State or Country. WeatherUnderground started with the University of Michigan's Meterology Dept. and also uses the National Weather Service. Very nice imo.

For me, Weather Watcher is a good solution for users with permanent connections(DSL, Cable,Satelite). Sits in your tray next to the clock with the current temperature. Hovering shows a popup with further info and clicking it shows more extensive info. All customizable and it doesn't use that much RAM

Just a comment on weather underground ndebord:

I have them on the front page of my website too! They have some really awesome banner type weather thingys that you can place on your page from the very simple to the very complex. smiling smiley I went for the complex for mine because it gives me weather in both American/Global standards, wind directions (important for Maine as we have four weather fronts---different weather for each), barometric pressures, etc.

One thing that bothers me is that the KM adblocking cuts out the banner so if I want to see it I have to use my Mozilla with AdBlock and I can't remember their exact URL to try and unblock it, nor if I can in the userContent.css. I can, however, still go to their website as I've bookmarked it for my zipcode. smiling smiley

jsnj and Eyes-Only,

Well, I'm running WIN98se and as you both know, systems resources are sometimes an issue. I've got enough stuff in my tray already. I do a lot of wifi, so have a firewall and anti-virus running there and those things are resource hogs!

I guess what I'm saying is this new setup for search engines is pure bliss. I really like using it with all the various iterations. Being able to put a search phrase in the main URL box and have a different search engine do its thing as needed is superb. I like it better than bookmarks or hardcoding urls into the menu and macro cfg files, which I also do. <g>

I don't use the adblocking thing with KM. I decided some time ago that ads were good things, otherwise my favorite sites would go broke, so decided to live and let live! do use Popups blocker and turn off Java all the time. From time to time I employ KillFlash too. Am almost of a mind to uninstall Flash altogether except to do so is a pita at some sites, so....

I'm in the market for a new, ok, a not quite new notebook.(The wallet can't afford a new state of the art jewel at this moment unfortunately.)

And although there are a lot of search engines out there for pricing stuff, including the KM eBay one that I've used here that is very nice indeed. (THANKS much guys!), I needed one that had access to reviews. That place to my mind is CNET, although they don't always have a review to match the goods, sometimes they do!
And their reviews aren't half bad.

Here is their clearance search engine!

Enjoy!

One of the many .SRC files from Mycroft is the Yahoo Maps one.

Can't figure out how to get it to work with KM?

jsnj,

Here is the main page at maps.yahoo.com

I would expect that the easier way to go would be just City, State, ZIP.

My locations

Address
(intersection or airport code)

City, State, ZIP

Country
(defaults to USA)

Using a sample of Newark NJ I get this response

Here is the actual SRC from MyCroft

Thanks to Mycroft once again. I've been looking for a search engine that does medical, but as a not for profit as some of the DOT COM sites were just too, ah, commercial!!!

Duke University was there all along staring me in the face.
