As you may know, the recent version of TheOpenCD was HTML based and used K-meleon to drive the content (running directly from the CD). We have most things working the way we want, but not quite and it's a bit random. We would ideally like to involve some K-meleon experts in the development of a custom version.
We would like the following:
1. Run from the CD without altering the HD or the register
2. A clean Gecko engine without menus, toolbars or context menus
3. Run locally without triggering a firewall (ie. don't access the net or localhost)
4. Minimum size / Fast start - we are trying to squeeze as much FOSS as possible onto the CD, so the smaller the CD-browser overhead, the better.
5. Load images and pages to Memory cache - since we are running it off the CD, opening a new page will often cause the CD to spin up. Can we use a javascript or something to pre-load images and pages into memory cache?
6. Select string and icon changes - Window titlebar, download/save dialog
7. Completed and tested by the end of May
We are also a volunteer FOSS project, but we do currently have a sponsor. That means that we have some funding and we can talk about a bounty for doing these alterations, on the order of $1000, let's say.
