Is there any way to simply add .xpi extensions?

According to the wikipedia article you read:

"The maintaner of this "branch", K-Meleon community member Dorian Boissonnade, has announced that K-Meleon 1.0 has passed the beta stage and he plans to release K-Meleon 1.0 Release Candidate 1 as early as the end of May."

The official K-Meleon 1.0 will probably be during the summer... probably either June or July. I'd expect a July release, but this is coming from a simple K-Meleon user- not a developer.

Here is where you can find Dorian's builds:
http://boisso.free.fr/kmeleon/

Extensions can be added with a lot of hacking. Even then though... some will not work. We have macros to do the functions that extensions do in Firefox.

Hmm. I would think so. Is there any easy way to submit a new feature?

You can usually post on the forums... asking for a certain feature and if enough people agree, then it may be implemented, upon Dorian's discretion.

K-Meleon 1.0 hit a small snag called Gecko 1.8.2 code, which was different enough from 1.8.1 code to make things difficult for a final release. We had gone though a lot of betas based on 1.8.1 code, but ran into bugs when moving to the newer code base.

So, July sounds good to me.

<sigh>

It could even be August (or even later!) if this happens again.
Thank you very much, Dorian... for doing all of the wonderful things you do.

alain also ran into problems trying to get chrome from 1.8.0.2.

Extensions: some ppl here think that instalable xpi are a potential danger.
( i am one that thinks this : )

Some FF extensions can be made to work.

Guenter,

It does seem that more XPI extensions are dangerous. Probably because more hackers are writing malware for the Mozilla FireFox/Seamonkey Gecko codebase.

I don't think that I have the formula to having xpi files done yet but I am d*** close. Just a little finding the macro's if possible

xpi are zip files. unzip to look inside. next compare (e.g. with a aggreg8.xpi) what is inside and how it was done with aggreg or mtypes - when our devs included it.

then do the same.

first add items to installed-chrome.txt (then delete chrome.rtf and overlay
- can be folder or rtf - depending on k-m/GRE version).

then make macro &place between other &XUL macros.
(inside macros.cfg)

( it will be shapped like)
RSS{
$xul="chrome://aggreg8/content/aggreg8.xul"; &XUL;
}

Yours is possibly: ????

rune{
$xul="chrome://rune/content/runescape.xul"; &XUL;
}

(look inside the runscape.jar for exact spelling and so on - these macros are unforgiving about typos ( *.jar is just one more name for zip extension ; -)...

then make entry in menus.cfg - adapt someting like:

macros(mimeEdit, Edit Mime Types)

to:

macros(rune, Call RuneScape)

Give three short prayers ... start the thing. // not all work but You r maybe lucky.

btw. if runescape xpi (= zipped installer) has:

files for components/ ? naturally copy them to k-m there.components - kill the two *.dat that are inside that folder before restart.k-m remakes them with new items.

some times the xpi also have somthing to be included for other k-m folders
- it must must be copied to equivalent k-m folder place (naturally).

hope You understand my "half English-German" explanantion/gibberish.

p. s. Not all FFox extensions will work with k-m. that is what the prayers r for :-)

a good zipper program? = 7zip found at http://www.7-zip.org/ or sourceforge.

hope this helps
