Gorilla no baka
That`s what i suspected...more or less..There is no real need to upgrade except for the fact that we are "friendly pushed" toward it..
Maybe I did not get the yeast of the thread I read at mozilla because I en-US is not my mother language - But I think i understood. Take it, Cum granu salis.
& my opinionated opinion about this is:
For PPL that have NT or better it is and improvement. 9x user will likely stand in the rain.
A dying species, their OS provider has (unlike IBM) the policy that an OS has a life cycle of 5 years */-. No security updates after that, no updates for shipped apps like players and most of all NO NEW COMPILERS
which should take care of those that are too "stubborn"
. And that are not buying new hardware for one reason or the other. If they put now $$ into circulation they deserve no better.
Some PPL at Mozilla.org openly endorsed this policy. Because they deserve no support. Reason. No OS updates means that these PCs are likely to be infected, potential bots and a danger to their owners and especially the rest of internet community. They do their duty and buy hard and software (like well earning young IT nerds). Best force them because they do not have the common sense to buy new hard and software when it is time to move.
All was combined by some subtle flaming against a SeaMonkey person, that seemed critical. Like: with Your little %tage, here is Your chance, go support these misers. That will at least give You a better market share.
The answer was something like: that they are changing SeaMonkey to toolkit already and cannot support ... (the problem seems that Cairo support is not implemented by MS for 9x - and You need the new compilers & SDK).
Consolation for PPL that are on old PCs and OSs. After most of those that can afford have moved; it will be even less interesting for bot-net and other malware coders to "support"
them and their obsolete systems.
p.s. Maybe You should sell cars with life cycle in the Seattle area.
But You'd probably hit the wrong guys.
The real problem with wild dogs is not the dog but their careless owners.
& the real danger with bot-net infected PCs is not the PC but their careless owners.
