Help needed about K-Meleon translation
Posted by: nikel

Hello, I'm translating K-Meleon to Turkish, modifying the .kml files in /locales/de

It's almost finished. I need to know whether anything else has to be done except for this or not. For example do I have to modify or create dll's?

And where am I going to publish this translation?

Regards,
Can

You need 3 parts at least:

1) take the corresponding localized FF distro (for KM 75 - FF 31 ESR, for KM 76 - FF 38 ESR) and get the needed locale part from omni.ja (both - from root FF folder ans from browser subfolder) you can look for needed files in other KM-locales (use DE if you started with it - inside file de.jar)

This is for Gecko localization in KM

2) kml-files, translated by you

3) dll-files (like in other translations) translated using free Resource Hacker.

If you need help, search the forum for 'Resource Hacker' and/or ask us.

Where can I find actual English dll's? Because I don't know German well.

I'm working on K-Meleon 76 Beta3. I hope this is OK.

I couldn't find something like FF distro. Another thing is that I found only one locales dir and omni.ja

EDIT: I found FF 38 ESR (Turkish) but still having problem with dlls.

well, here you can download the most actual localization kit with all you need.

And the next link is to the old but useful binary components localization guide

P.S. These were two which I started with in order to make modern ru-locale year ago! So feel free to ask all what you need!
And maybe this guenter's post also could be useful for you

It's nice to get these resources. Hey, I wonder if difference between versions would be a problem. I'm working on version 76 Beta 3. But the file I downloaded is named kmeleonloc74.

nikel,
it's OK - last version do not vary too much (almost at all) when it touches k-plugins (those dll files to localize) and their strings.

The only dll that is really growing there is the main one - kmeleon.dll: read that post by Dorian

P.S. Original ENG k-meleon strings can be found by opening k-meleon.exe itself (with the same tool - Resource Hacker)

thanks for your interest. I'm having problem with Resource Hacker. I can't manipulate some properties of controls properly. Please have a look at this picture:

For example I can't set the width and the x properties of two boxes. I tried many things including to use different Windows resource editors. Really, I spent a few days for this issue however couldn't fix it.

Another thing is which file formats are .kml files? I want to know this because I'm using Notepad++ and WinMerge.

kml-s are just plain txt-files in UTF

Have no experience with that either, but just found when clicking on one of the "CONTROL..." lines there appear handles to pull the size of each element in the menu box?

Hi, I didn't try to compile after doing that because you can't move/resize multiple items. If I do this one by one, each boxes' properties would be different.

I tried modifying the script values.

Look at image (clickable for fullsize)

Red box shows you script lines related with 2 fields - 'Nick' and 'Description' (sorry for russian layout).

Yellow marker shows the numeric data which formes input fields.

4 numbers there (160, 205, 135, 12) define: (in pixels)
- horizontal start (left edge) coordinate (160)
- vertical start (top edge) coordinate (205)
- field lenght (135)
- field height (12)

At first both fields were aligned and equal - so the numbers differ only in second position (top edge) - then I changed them to get more space for field Name: I shifted left edge from 145 to 160 (15 pix to the right) and contracted the length for the same 15 pix to get right edge in the old place.

Finally it became like this (check number changes not only for fields themselves - yellow mark, but for names too - green mark):

Just recompile changes and save file - it autocreates backup for original dll in the same folder.

The problem though is that you can change length of field Name and field itself but the main dll-file will overlay your layout with original even if you hack the bookmarks.dll in kplugins folder, so you'll really get smth like this:

It seems like we cannot fix this without Dorian.

Hi, Rodocop,

You can also, instead of modifying the location, just move and resize the objects using the keyboard

Use
Shift+(Left or right or up or down) to resize
Ctrl +(Left or right or up or down) to move

Easiest and more precise than modifying the values

Yes I'm having the problem you stated.

Don't worry, not your prob. It seems the bug that rodocop describes has nothing to do with the translated dlls, instead there is some fault in K-Meleon itself. So if the translated dlls look correct in resource hacker, THOSE files are probably correct inside and you're finished.
And when some day Dorian will get around to fix that KM bug, the translated menus will automatically start working too. Probably...

What help do You need?

The dll thing? Only Dorian can change dll.

Wait till he reads about the problem and finds time.

p.s. I can only speak English and German no Turkish.
