source-code needs markers for automatic versioning by packager tool, as explained by guenter (Devs used it until KM74, hopefully in the future again?)
Not sure, but would assume that this automatic tool is using regex and able to update the text regardless if the text between the markers is empty in the source, or if there's already some manual text there. Just as long as the red marker text is in the right place.

Whow... cool :cool: But if ALL locales are broken, it must have another reason, not 1 locale, in theory... Hmm... deleting startupCache is always a good idea in general, although have doubts it helps for this... If really the locale is involved, then my first suspect would be those 2 build-info lines for PRO, tested only 1x shortly with empty values. Anyway, can you upload it for me to take a look again?

I had to delete all locales to recover the default.
Anyway. I have now fixed about : permissions for all locale versions not yet fixed. about : addons works too.
But that accident and Your post gave me a clou were to start searching for the real cause.
The reason behind it and to some of our previous troubles is.
Some files XUL; dtd etc. are not Firefox 38 OSR or similar but genuine Pale Maon.
I know of two files. There may be more.

Two more that had a problem on my PC.
These uploads do not mean that any of the respective translators has not found the reason and the solution before me.
Do Your tests only with the newest version of 20180106.

Hmm... that Goanna is closer to Palemoon as to Firefox sure makes sense. But on the other hand, cannot find those entries above anywhere in the omnis, in a search for aboutpermission files and with that text inside? Neither in the en-US locale, nor in xul or js etc. Are they called by another file...?
PS: startupCache always on my list of suspects.
Update: Had not checked all, only some. Turns out now, camera and microphone are definitely needed, or xul-error in Permissions (current example: french)

But as I found out the hard way. When all the chrome locales were crashed by one single locale unfixed chrome. This problem may come from another language version and is only draged over and caused by the tests.
I just load a language, load one of the problematic about:about pages. Then I change the locale and then refresh.
When I find something odd I shut down and restart at that point.
But even that does not always prevent interference it seems.
p.s. The error can be caused by missing entities in global\aboutSupport.dtd

No it is not - all the rest and especially the layout of the chrome is like ESR 38 chrome. Some strings in some dtd. Not more - no idea why.
IMHO - since I compared them because I thought we could find a solution by using Palemoon dtd for all problems. But of course comparing every single file is above my possibilies with time and my my memory.
Yes - deleting startup cache sometimes helps. And checking whether the browser has shut down totally. Which it sometimes does not after JS errors.

Yeah that thing we recently discussedin detail for german. Neustart "versuchen" oder "probieren" etc. Was just a missing string. May be it's still missing in russian.
Couldn't test your new packs myself yet, but just for clarification:
for non-french languages, the modification to the latest packs in the "last link list for roytam" is only the file permissions.dtd? Or other files too?

Just for the sake of the forum dataspace being 6-7 times bigger as allowed already, and avoiding a split, the 2 dictionary files can be left out (*.dic+*.aff) At least as long as we're only testing (For the final version guenter and I have still opposite views if 7 dics must be included in KM and the packs directly, but that's another discussion)

If others have no prob, can you make a screenshot or description how the error looks on your PC? With latest KM-Goanna 20180106? And a way to reproduce?
And yes of course, comparing the 3.500 files in the omnis would be insane! So I did a quick sort by date, and only 11 were modified in the last 1 3/4 years, those would be my prime suspects, and of course would try comparing myself too. But need a reproducable error for checking.

Hey guenter! I not see xul errors in IT locales with the latest Goanna version, just something minor errors like a macros.properties or the preferences layout that will be added to the next update.
We are waiting for the screenshot or other for check the situation.

and just remembered something about DE locale... noticed it when using it for comparing with FR some days ago, but then forgot again:
In one of those edited (dtd?) pages there were missing translations after the "=", right side empty, and something similar... found it interesting, at the time assuming that DE works anyway, but was too busy with fixing other stuff to take a closer look.
@niceeight: try also KM76RC2? and KM-PRO? It's different in some regards, and it needs those 2 build-lines mentioned above.
(also wondering: your separate 75.1 version, just perhaps, if it may work with the goanna-locale too??)

Not in the locale chrome jars I attached above. That is why I posted them.
They are matched and were tested together.
p.s. I have extracted a version of all relevant Pale Moon, Firefox 38 and Firefox 38 ESR chromes to get the national strings when needed.
Downloading and archiving is the work and finding what is where.
The rest was a copy paste, or copy, zip, rename and test job.
Scavenge them - why translate Yourself!
The translations are after all done by native speakers not Google translate. :drool:
After I had that total failure - I had mentioned - I systematically checked and updated all. In order to test them together. Before that we all did individual ones and later found - sometimes they work but maybe sometimes not.

I tested with the aim to break.

IMHO it is necessary to identify first the procedures to solve problems related to syntax errors, missing files, lack of code lines or folder replacing, which are the most complicated to solve, and differentiate everything else related to translation errors that is the easiest thing to fix for a native speaker or just to find in any Firefox standard language pack.
It's amazingly ridiculous that everything can be well translated and then the locale won't work when an about.preferences, about.support or about.addons are required. Accurate translations should be the final step of locale fixing despite its importance. BTW native speakers have more standardized and technical language than own Firefox language pack compilers? :mad:

You look at the yellow/brown error page. An error message is pointing to a XUL.
A XUL. Look into the header of the XUL. It is pointing in its header to a dtd - existing or not.
Usually create the missing entity. Look into the dtd (if it exists or create one) find the entity, that is missing, It can be void but it must exist.
Chrome is unforgiving - a little error and it stops working just like JavaScript.
K-Meleon tries to invoke substitutes from an existing chrome - if You are lucky.
Firefox and the GRE cannot. If an entity is wrong all breaks.
Little errors do not break it. Definitions can be miss spelled. Translate, correct or try to find it in an existing chrome?
Less good Google translate - better ask a native speaker. If You cannot find it.
p.s. Chrome work is la mierda. Miss spell, save as wrong file type, or do any small error = and it breaks. El fin - a yellow brown message window. And much to search.

my explained point is that I always wanted to fix the errors observed for example when typed about.preferences, about.support and about.addons, with independence of the more accurate translation. However, every "non perfect" translation with Google translator was observed here with a magnifying glass. It never was my intention to translate NO phrase to its locale, only to fix the errors to make about.preferences and others to work right on the screen.
On the other hand, trusting native speakers es ist die Scheiße because their common responses are non technical standardized for uncommon language and mostly depend from the region of the country and the way of speaking, for example:

ok. Now I understand - sorry for my mistake. But still that is how I see chrome.
I am doing chrome work for our community since version 0.9 Fred's edition or before. And I hate all hours that I spent with it. I learned all by trial and error & now I try to help those that have to look into this rubbish.
Standardized language like used by Firefox. That is one reason why I downloaded all those chromes. The other reason - it is simply easier and faster when You have a lot of strings to translate or update.

Hochdeutsch became standardized by Luther's bible translation which he AFAIK based on Saxon Kanzlei style. A small German state that comprise low German, middle German and upper German dialects had developed an idiom to communicate - and he knew that idiom. Many protestant areas in the North speak only a modern form of that language and no local dialect. I am from Hannover and speak standard - which I use daily.
I also set out to fix the faults mostly.

The files appear in the list. Maybe the "de version 20180106" that You downloaded broke during the download process. Or some other unexplainable chrome mistake. During unpacking or packing.
They sometime break just from upload or download - or for no reason at all
- I hate the chromes.

Yet when I look inside that file NOW from a fresh download, it contains a jar from January-12! And also the file itself is still named "20180106". So the unexplainable thing is rather, your edits don't always update the last-edit-date??
PS: but the FR-locale in first post here is really still the old broken one from jan-5. Could need an update :cool:

Based on Goanna engine, called 'test' builds forever but more stable as 75.1 acc. forum members. It's 1-2 generations ahead of predecessor KM76RC-2016

Sei doch nicht immer so überempfindlich, seufz. Der Fehler liegt doch gar nicht beim Hochladen, sondern schlicht und einfach daran, dass der Herunterlader eine frühere Version hatte, nicht die aktuelle. Und das liegt nun mal daran, dass man dem Posting beim besten Willen nicht ansehen kann, dass die Datei seither nochmal ausgetauscht wurde. Und weil da auch noch ausdrücklich 3x ein altes Datum drinsteht, auch nicht auf die Idee kommt, nur so auf Verdacht täglich mal die Datei runterzuladen und reinzugucken, ob es immer noch die gleiche ist.
Weil Forum "last edit" nicht erneuert. Wenn man was hochlädt.
Ich bin nicht Forum Maintainer. Hatte ich schon mitgeteilt.

I had to delete all locales to recover the default.
Anyway. I have now fixed about : permissions for all locale versions not yet fixed. about : addons works too.
But that accident and Your post gave me a clou were to start searching for the real cause.
The reason behind it and to some of our previous troubles is.
Some files XUL; dtd etc. are not Firefox 38 OSR or similar but genuine Pale Maon.
I know of two files. There may be more.

Two more that had a problem on my PC.
These uploads do not mean that any of the respective translators has not found the reason and the solution before me.
Do Your tests only with the newest version of 20180106.

PS: startupCache always on my list of suspects.
Update: Had not checked all, only some. Turns out now, camera and microphone are definitely needed, or xul-error in Permissions (current example: french)

But as I found out the hard way. When all the chrome locales were crashed by one single locale unfixed chrome. This problem may come from another language version and is only draged over and caused by the tests.
I just load a language, load one of the problematic about:about pages. Then I change the locale and then refresh.
When I find something odd I shut down and restart at that point.
But even that does not always prevent interference it seems.
p.s. The error can be caused by missing entities in global\aboutSupport.dtd

No it is not - all the rest and especially the layout of the chrome is like ESR 38 chrome. Some strings in some dtd. Not more - no idea why.
IMHO - since I compared them because I thought we could find a solution by using Palemoon dtd for all problems. But of course comparing every single file is above my possibilies with time and my my memory.
Yes - deleting startup cache sometimes helps. And checking whether the browser has shut down totally. Which it sometimes does not after JS errors.

Couldn't test your new packs myself yet, but just for clarification:
for non-french languages, the modification to the latest packs in the "last link list for roytam" is only the file permissions.dtd? Or other files too?

Just for the sake of the forum dataspace being 6-7 times bigger as allowed already, and avoiding a split, the 2 dictionary files can be left out (*.dic+*.aff) At least as long as we're only testing (For the final version guenter and I have still opposite views if 7 dics must be included in KM and the packs directly, but that's another discussion)

If others have no prob, can you make a screenshot or description how the error looks on your PC? With latest KM-Goanna 20180106? And a way to reproduce?
And yes of course, comparing the 3.500 files in the omnis would be insane! So I did a quick sort by date, and only 11 were modified in the last 1 3/4 years, those would be my prime suspects, and of course would try comparing myself too. But need a reproducable error for checking.

Hey guenter! I not see xul errors in IT locales with the latest Goanna version, just something minor errors like a macros.properties or the preferences layout that will be added to the next update.

In one of those edited (dtd?) pages there were missing translations after the "=", right side empty, and something similar... found it interesting, at the time assuming that DE works anyway, but was too busy with fixing other stuff to take a closer look.
@niceeight: try also KM76RC2? and KM-PRO? It's different in some regards, and it needs those 2 build-lines mentioned above.
(also wondering: your separate 75.1 version, just perhaps, if it may work with the goanna-locale too??)

Not in the locale chrome jars I attached above. That is why I posted them.
They are matched and were tested together.
p.s. I have extracted a version of all relevant Pale Moon, Firefox 38 and Firefox 38 ESR chromes to get the national strings when needed.
Downloading and archiving is the work and finding what is where.
The rest was a copy paste, or copy, zip, rename and test job.
Scavenge them - why translate Yourself!
The translations are after all done by native speakers not Google translate. :drool:
After I had that total failure - I had mentioned - I systematically checked and updated all. In order to test them together. Before that we all did individual ones and later found - sometimes they work but maybe sometimes not.
& I do not completely understand - what You all are trying to tell me.

1.) Screenshot would be the brownish pic with an error message.
Or the blue lego stones instead of the individual addon ikon on about:addons.
Nothing we had not seen before.
2.) I will probably update de macros.properties when the dev is finished adding macros.
3.) I checked with the locales that came out of the box.
IMHO I mentioned before that these things might be fixed already?

I tested with the aim to break.
So that we are cetain all works when an end-user does things like that because he needs it.

IMHO it is necessary to identify first the procedures to solve problems related to syntax errors, missing files, lack of code lines or folder replacing, which are the most complicated to solve, and differentiate everything else related to translation errors that is the easiest thing to fix for a native speaker or just to find in any Firefox standard language pack.
It's amazingly ridiculous that everything can be well translated and then the locale won't work when an about.preferences, about.support or about.addons are required. Accurate translations should be the final step of locale fixing despite its importance. BTW native speakers have more standardized and technical language than own Firefox language pack compilers? :mad:

You look at the yellow/brown error page. An error message is pointing to a XUL.
A XUL. Look into the header of the XUL. It is pointing in its header to a dtd - existing or not.
Usually create the missing entity. Look into the dtd (if it exists or create one) find the entity, that is missing, It can be void but it must exist.
Chrome is unforgiving - a little error and it stops working just like JavaScript.
K-Meleon tries to invoke substitutes from an existing chrome - if You are lucky.
Firefox and the GRE cannot. If an entity is wrong all breaks.
Little errors do not break it. Definitions can be miss spelled. Translate, correct or try to find it in an existing chrome?
Less good Google translate - better ask a native speaker. If You cannot find it.
p.s. Chrome work is la mierda. Miss spell, save as wrong file type, or do any small error = and it breaks. El fin - a yellow brown message window. And much to search.

It never was my intention to translate NO phrase to its locale, only to fix the errors to make about.preferences and others to work right on the screen.

All means the same, real examples from my friends. So I prefer the spanish Firefox standardized phrase, not from natives. However, as I said, it never was my intention to translate locales but to fix the errors, the method itself. BTW, have you tested my DE german fixed locale, uploaded hours ago?
There were two files missing at preferences: search.dtd, translations.dtd.
Please give a look if possible.

ok. Now I understand - sorry for my mistake. But still that is how I see chrome.
I am doing chrome work for our community since version 0.9 Fred's edition or before. And I hate all hours that I spent with it. I learned all by trial and error & now I try to help those that have to look into this rubbish.
Standardized language like used by Firefox. That is one reason why I downloaded all those chromes. The other reason - it is simply easier and faster when You have a lot of strings to translate or update.

I also set out to fix the faults mostly.
Found it now. All previously broken items work. Just like mine.
I re-downloaded mine and checked. C:\de version 20180106.7z\de.jar\browser\preferences\
The files appear in the list. Maybe the "de version 20180106" that You downloaded broke during the download process. Or some other unexplainable chrome mistake. During unpacking or packing.
They sometime break just from upload or download - or for no reason at all
- I hate the chromes.

Based on Goanna engine, called 'test' builds forever but more stable as 75.1 acc. forum members. It's 1-2 generations ahead of predecessor KM76RC-2016

Sorry, aber wenn du dir halt selber widersprichst - mehrfach. Das "Last Update" hast du im Post handgeschrieben. Und den Dateinamen auch. Nur das Edit-Datum ist automatisch. Und wenn du halt wegen der 3 Widersprüche nicht selber drauf kommst, woran sowas hier liegen könnte, dann nützt das ganze Hochdeutsch nix mehr (das du im übrigen auch nicht von fremdsprachigen Lesern erwarten kannst):

20180106 = roytam1's build date. Gehört also dazu.

Ich sollte vielleicht nicht mehr versuchen zu helfen oder was zu tun

Hier sagt man, wenn man Dialekt spricht. Einem geschenkten Pferd schaut man nicht in den Arsch. Wie sagt man das am Bodensee oder auf Hochdeutsch?

Sei doch nicht immer so überempfindlich, seufz. Der Fehler liegt doch gar nicht beim Hochladen, sondern schlicht und einfach daran, dass der Herunterlader eine frühere Version hatte, nicht die aktuelle. Und das liegt nun mal daran, dass man dem Posting beim besten Willen nicht ansehen kann, dass die Datei seither nochmal ausgetauscht wurde. Und weil da auch noch ausdrücklich 3x ein altes Datum drinsteht, auch nicht auf die Idee kommt, nur so auf Verdacht täglich mal die Datei runterzuladen und reinzugucken, ob es immer noch die gleiche ist.
