Hi all

i am working on k-meleon1.5's chinese loaction files which are based on the incomplete locale package on this website:
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/files/K-Meleon1.5zh-CN_locale.7z

it's almost finished. but i still got some questions about the edcoding of files in zh-CN.jar.
there are three filetypes in zh-CN.jar: .dtd, .properties and .xml.
and they are in two different character encoding: utf8 and ANSI.
what i have got now:
all .dtd and some .properties files must be utf8 encoded to "display chinese" correctly.
but some .properties files must be ANSI encoded to "dispaly" correctly.
the related en-US.jar are all encoded in ANSI.

so, what's the right way of encoding?
especally for these .preperties files.

All chrome files are encoded in UTF-8.
In properties files, Unicode symbols (\u...) were used in the past when UTF-8 was not supported. That's just a legacy. You can use UTF-8 in properties files too.

@ kko

if some .properties files are encoded in utf8, it couldn not display correctly.
for example: chrome\zh-CN.jar\kmprefs\locale\zh-CN\gestures.properties.
and all the mouse geastures selection will be blank.
but it do works if it's utf8 no bom encoded

I always use UTF-8 no bom encoded (or without BOM). This works fine in all chrome files.
