New unofficial version: KM-16-F3519

I have uploaded a new unofficial updated variation KM-16-F3519.
from the updated Firefox 3.5.19, Gecko 1.9.1.19.
I have based it on Firefox, because Seamonkey Tinderbox has only builds with
the dlls from the folder components integrated in seamonkey.exe, which is useless for me.
The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder,
and should leave profiles from other versions untouched.
If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory because of
property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini inside the K-Meleon main folder
to for example profile.ini-renamed before the first start.
Note : This version needs the 80's runtimes. Download MSvce8dist.exe from
http://jujuland.pagesperso-orange.fr and install it.
It also needs the files mfc71u.dll, msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll in your system.
If you need them, look for them in the Internet, and put them into the K-Meleon main folder.

I have uploaded a second version based on Firefox 3519,
with a Gecko made by Guenter.
This one is very similar to KM-16-S2014, as it has the
dlls in a big components folder and not in a big xul.dll .
It only needs the 80s runtimes. Download MSvce8dist.exe from
http://jujuland.pagesperso-orange.fr and install it.
The files mfc71u.dll, msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll are
not necessary here.

Note that Firefox 3.5.19 will be the last version of the Firefox 3.5 series. no more new releases of FF 3.5 will be made after v3.5.19.

There's now a Firefox 3.5 EOL (end-of-life) page posted on MozillaWiki:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/3.5_EOL

Thank you for the information.
A KM-16-3617 , based on FF 3.6, is also possible.
To make it work properly, k-meleon.exe from KM 1.7
must be used.
It is deplorable, that the support for FF 3.5 has been
cancelled so early.
Hopefully the same thing concerning FF 3.6 will not
happen so soon, because that would really bring along
a problem for K-Meleon updates.
There is no k-meleon.exe available at the moment,
that would work with Geckos from FF 4 or even FF 5.
I suppose, that there are fortunately still many business
users around, who are not willing to update to FF 4 and
higher as fast as the Mozilla developers would like it.
This is in my opinion really an unnecessary race for
higher versions, in order to keep users from changing
to Chrome or Internet Explorer 9. Problems with updating
the many existing extensions for Firefox are probably
the logic consequence.

maybe from your point of view.

Wladimir begs to differ as he wrote this in the ABP forum about FF 3.5 support back in Dec. 2010:

Quote

No, Firefox 3.5 is still officially supported - way longer than usual. Firefox 3.5.16 is still not the last release from this branch, there will be at least Firefox 3.5.17 as well. On the other hand, Firefox 4 is also being delayed. So I guess that I will keep supporting Firefox 3.5 for now.

PS: Stats update: currently around 8% of the Adblock Plus users are still on Firefox 3.5. As we've seen with Firefox 3.0, this number won't get significantly lower even after Mozilla stops supporting it.

remember Fred, Mozilla wanted to originally drop FF 3.5 support in late summer of 2010, several months after FF 3.6 was officially released in early 2010.

It may be well the view of most K-Meleon users too.
If Firefox 3.6.x should not be supported anymore
in the near future, which I really don't hope,
K-Meleon would not be updatable anymore.
But may be a new k-meleon.exe is already in
preparation, the sooner the better.

Fred,

The wild card when it comes to FF 3.5 is Linux. In the past, Mozilla has consistently extended the life for the benefit of that OS.

As for this nuttiness of coming out with a new release every 18 weeks and threatening EOL immediately, I can only say that Mozilla is not Chrome and can't compete with them competently in that kind of timeframe. I hope they will support 3.6 for some time. I've tried to use FF4 and don't like it much, so 3.6.17 for my tastes. I can always go over to Seamonkey I guess.

although there ARE new FF 3.5.20pre nightlies available. it would be nice if the next KM 1.6 beta was based on the latest gecko 1.9.1.20pre nightly build.
