New unofficial version : KM-16-F3625
Posted by: Fred
Date: December 25, 2011 04:04PM

I have uploaded a new unofficial version KM-16-F3625 ,
based on the updated Firefox 3.6.25 , Gecko 1.9.2.25 , date 20111212 .
It is possible, but not sure that Mozilla will release further updates
for Firefox 3.6, as many business customers will want to continue using
the older Firefox versions.
Note : This version needs the 80's runtimes. Download MSvce8dist.exe from
http://jujuland.pagesperso-orange.fr and install it.
As kplugins from K-Meleon 1.5 are being used, you will also need
the files msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you need these files, look for them in the internet.
The profile will be created inside the K-Meleon folder.
If in Linux you want it inside the ".wine" folder, because of
user rights problems, rename the file profile.ini to
profile.ini-renamed before the first start.

Regards to all and Merry Christmas

Good riddance, too long support makes this the new IE6.

Trolls are an interesting breed.

Don't you think that renaming your handle to "Type Interference" would be a good thing?

jmillar,

Want to talk about what works and what doesn't when you combine KM 1.6, 1.5 and 1.7 in one hybrid browser? <VBG>

Anyway in this version IE Favourites plugin is missing & Preferences -> Browsing -> History don't save modified settings.

I originally posted this in Development, in the wrong thread.

All things considered, using Fred's hybrid of 1.7a, 1.6b2 and 1.54 combo works most of the time for me. I have a question for everyone. Would Hao's LUA work be useful or be able to be incorporated into this mix and perhaps help with usability?

Any ideas...

I don't know if it would be possible.
It would anyhow have to be done by Hao himself,
or someone else who knows the Lua language.
I personally could not do it.
The Lua macros did not work for me in Linux with wine,
and that is one of the reasons why I started
my own K-Meleon-NX versions without the Lua parts
a couple of years ago.
So I never tried to learn the language then, which
I might have tried if I would have used Windows more often.
But may be someone else could try to do some
changes for K-Meleon, using Lua.

Regards

Fred

Fred,

I know, I post mainly out of frustration. Without a C++ programmer, KM has problems. Your hybrid is my everyday KM browser because of issues with some sites with the older Gecko engine in KM 1.6.2b2. But as You've said, it too has issues, most of which I just ignore. I use browser.kmm to load up Firefox when they do arise, so it is not as though things are terrible, but this way of doing things is most definitely a kludge IMO. So I ask questions. As for Linux, it is a fine OS, but most of my writing tools are DOS and some don't work under Wine, and barely work under XP PRO SP3, so...

Thankyou Thankyou!
Gmail is working again. I have a couple of old laptops which can barely run firefox, but KMeleon runs comfortably even when left open for days, with dozens of tabs. Its amazing and thankyou for updating it.
