I have uploaded an unofficial update K-Meleon1.02-1.8.1.2
to Mozilla 1.8.1.2 from Seamonkey 1.1.1 final, Gecko 20070222.
There seem to be vulnerabilities, that have been fixed in
the new Seamonkey files.
I tried therefore to offer an unofficial
update for K-Meleon 1.02 as soon as possible, and had to
include more files from Seamonkey as usual, to make it work
without further delay. Nevertheless, I can give no
guarantees for this version, as there was no beta testing,
and I am also not a core developer.
So use it at your own risk, if you decide to use it.

Note that the profile will be created by default inside
the K-Meleon main folder, and will not touch an earlier
profile in the folder C:/documents... etc.
If you should want to use your existing profile there,
rename the file profile.ini in the K-Meleon main folder
to profile.ini-renamed or similar before the first start
of the browser.

Is this something like the 0'9 Brian's GRE Update Patches?

I've tryed it and seems to work, but I'm using an spanish translated K-Meleon and after copying the files over the previous installation it has converted to an english K-Meleon.

Is there a way to update only the GRE and the bug fixes leaving the rest as is, just as we did with Brian's patches?

It has been updated manually, some files that would not be
necessary might still be in components.

You probably can reuse the old chrome , defaults, skin , kplugins
and plugins folder of your spanish version.

I've taken Fred's updated file and simply deleted some of the files and folders (defaults, chrome, skins, Setdefault.exe and KMeleon.exe), now it's more like a patch.

It somebody wants to try it I can upload it somewhere, but erasing files and folders it's the only thing I did, and this is something that everyone can do by theirselves.

Yes, I would like to see how your "Patch" works. I took Fred's update and installed it, then manually copied files over on top of my KM 1.0.2 distribution. And it seems to work, although it doesn't say it is the latest version when you click on about k-Meleon.

I'm going to rename Fred's distribution to K-Meleon and try to install it again (I've backed up both my original KM 1.0.2 and my manually updated (Fred) KM 1.0.2 just in case) to see if I can get it to install to a folder called K-Meleon. Will make it a lot easier to manipulate)

Really I see no point uploading this, because it's just the same exact file from Fred but minus these files or folders:

- Defaults.
- Chrome.
- Skins.
- Setdefault.exe and Kmeleon.exe.

So I did nothing but deleting it and uploading, this is Fred's work, not mine.

Also, it has no beta test, no guarantees to work, etc.

I suggest making a backup of your current K-Meleon, and then just copying this file over it to see what happens, it should just update the GRE, but who knows, it may flash the BIOS of your motherboar with a midi song from the spanish '70s psychedelic gipsy group "Las Grecas". I hope it does not :-)

K-Meleon in Spanish

I've found some strange problems:

- Everytime I start the browser it asks me which profile do I want to load and if I want to create a new one.

- Everytime I close the browser appears the crash report plugin windows and says K-Meleon stopped unexpectedly.

Does anybody have found similar problems (it may be my system, I've tried it on a very old PC which is about to be formated).

Which browser version are you using? I was having problems with one of Fred's variations that asked me the profile question. So I gave up on it and went back to KM 1.0.2 and just today installed the upgrades using Dega's (sp) patch executable. This one seems to work O.K. (but haven't yet had time to really test it yet).

I had a couple of crashed before, but did not see the crash report thing but then this is a new crash report dll that works differently than the older version which just saved a report to file and then you had to copy it to either the Wiki or the Bug Section in the Forum.

I'm using the spanish 1'02 (almost identical to the official 1'02).

It may be my problem, will have to try it on other computer.

Tomorrow's morning I'm crossing Spain north to south, will try to find some victims for my experiments there :-)

The fact that the browser asks to confirm the profile to load, every time
from the second start on is a harmless little bug.
In K-Meleon 1.02-1.8.1.2 you have only to confirm the profile to
load by pushing the confirm button.
The same behaviour exists in my updated version K-Meleon 0.9.13-update5 .
In the versions K-Meleon-Linux-usable-1.8.1-v4 and
K-Meleon-Linux-usable-1.8.1-plus2, after pressing the confirm button,
an error alert appears, but a second pressing of the same
confirm button starts the browser. If you want to have the error button
disappear in these versions, go to Edit-->ManageProfiles after the start
and take the hook away at the window that pops up. After that, the
Linux versions will behave like the two other ones: a confirmation of
the profile is asked after each start, but without a following error alert,
to click away. All of that is harmless and no problem.
I have described the behaviour to await of the different versions always
before in my notes of my release announcements.
Enaitz, the message, that you get when you close the browser
is not normal.This means usually, that the browser is still runming in the
background, and should be terminated manually in the Taskmanager,
if it is still visible there (start the Taskmanager by the key combination
Ctrl + Alt +Delete).

@ all people with "ask profile ever" problem.

I had this problem when tested my update patch, this problem happen because some files are only for SeaMonkey not for K-Meleon.

Please use my PATCH with only needed files for K-Meleon.
If you have other update (Fred or Enaitz), you can changed it following this instructions;

1) Install original/official K-Meleon 1.02 (better extract it from .7z file) in other diferent folder.

2) Delete (better rename for backup) your "\components\" folder in your normal used K-Meleon.

3) Copy original/official folder "\components\" in your normal used K-Meleon.

4) Apply my Patch Update.

Now must be run fine. Tell me your experiences with this "experimental" solution.

I've experienced only one problem with this unofficial update executable. Which is downloading files sometimes crashes the browser (the example I'm thinking of is RapidShare).

We tried to do our best, but some small bugs may remain,
that are hard to fix for us, but the better security of this
update may be preferable, compared with the older official one.

I dowloaded now the first ZIP file (7 MB by Fred) of this patch (host in RapidShare)
with my 1.02 updated patch and download is good.
What download files crash to you? Can you post some example link?

I'm using Win2000 SP4.

Enaitz says that his profile problems solved when copy his ZIP patch upload file.

You can try this:

1) Download Enaitz zip file at begining of this thread.

2) Rename for backup your "K-Meleon\components" folder, in your normal used K-Meleon.

3) Copy Enaitz Zip patch folder "\components\" in your normal used K-Meleon.

I search not included nedded files in my exe patch of this folder.

The problem can be this file "C:\PROGRAM FILES\KMELEON1\COMPONENTS\EMBED_LITE.DLL" I don't found it in no 1.8.1.2 version of K-Meleon. You can tried rename it to EMBED_LITE.bak and test.

YES. That was the problem. Renamed embed_Lite.dll to embed_lite.bak and downloading now works perfectly once again. The old crash report dll was the key (for me) here.

So, yes, I confirm that your analysis is spot on and this unofficial K-Meleon 1.0.2 update now works perfectly for me.

OK friends! Now is the good time.

I remake my EXE patch and re-upload in the same link:

Change Log:

- Added some files in \components folder that may generated errors if K-Meleon not found.

- The Patch moved to backup folder (\PatchWise.bak), if this exist, or delete olds and generated files not needed. This files may generated errors in K-Meleon.

P.D: I detected that "Profile ask" problem success when you copy all K-Meleon folder in other path. (can be needed some registry entry)
