unofficial variation: K-Meleon-S201

I have uploaded an updated unofficial variation K-Meleon-S201 .
Download at :
http://www.filedropper.com/k-meleon-s201
This may be a temporary download link, as xthost has been disfunctional today.
I will add an xthost download link later.
This is an experimental version, based on Gecko 1.9.1.7pre/20091216, from Seamonkey 2.0.2 pre.
I had to use Gecko from Seamonkey Tinderbox .
My intention is to present an 1.9.1 variation that works in Windows, but also in Linux with wine, where the conditions to work are more difficult for K-Meleon than in Windows.
--Note : This version works only, if you have the files msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll and mfc71u.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon main folder. If you need these dll's, look for them in the Internet. If necessary in Linux, put them into the K-Meleon main folder. The profile will be created inside the K-Meleon folder. If in Linux you want it inside the ".wine" folder, because of user rights problems, rename the file profile.ini to profile.ini-renamed before the first start.
If you have starting problems, try to delete compreg.dat and xpti.dat in the folder components.
I have added these files, because in Vista earlier variations refused to build these files at the first start.
--Opera has been set as user agent, to avoid errors in complex webpages with insufficient browser recognition. In Linux the URL bar is only usable with more recent wine versions. If you are using an older wine version, use the URL button to open an URL prompt. A recent version of wine for Linux is preferable, to minimize possible crashes.
--A javascript button has been included. After changing permissions for javascript, reload the page.
--Many additional Search Engines in the menu bar, opening in a new window.
--A general startpage is already in the bookmarks.
--Keyboard shortcuts:
* Page back : (right)ctrl + left arrow
* Page forward : (right)ctrl + right arrow
* Close Window : (right)ctrl + down arrow
* Go to home : (right)ctrl + up arrow

the file I was missing isn't on dll-files.com.
I have found all the files on
http://www.fichier-dll.fr/
It's in french, but not too much difficult to use.

Seems the history plugin is not working properly...
For some reason, i can't clear history and change how long it keeps history.
Although I know this is an experimental build, it kinda annoys me

Yes, this is an existing problem.
History has to be deleted manually in the profile, as long
as there is no working kplugin for that purpose.
Another possibility would be to write a batch file
or a macro to delete history at the end of the
browser session.

It seems that the close bug occurs when closing a window (tab ?) without menu (so,no possibility to close it, except using X).
For example:
open S201, > Help > About K-Meleon
If you try to close About K-Meleon with X, you won't be able to close all the K-Meleon windows (tabs?) with Alt-F4
If you don't try to close About K-Meleon , you will be able to close the windows from which you have open 'About K-Meleon' and 'About K-Meleon' simultaneously with Alt-F4.
If you try to close the windows from which you have open 'About K-Meleon' and 'About K-Meleon' simultaneously with X, it makes nothing (no closure), but it doesn't crash K-Meleon. Alt-F4 alwys work after as said just before.
I think it's the way used to open 'About K-Meleon' which is a problem. This problem doesn't occur with Preference popup, or on KMES webpages after clicking on thumbnails.
Fred,
How have you build S201 ?
Have you taken K-Meleon.exe from 1.6 and gecko 1.9.1.7 ?
If I remember, 1.6 had a similar problem with closure.

Other problem:
cookies are saved in sqlite base, and K-Meleon seems to call old base.
So, after closing, the log here is to be made again.
And the manager doesn't see cookies.
Same problem with passwords.
In history box, properties aren't displayed, as for bookmarks

@ Jujuland
The exe is one of the k-meleon.exe's that probably
Dorian made for Hao's builds with 71 dlls.
The gecko is from Seamonkey 2 tinderbox, where
components dlls are still separated, while
in the release they are all combined in seamonkey.exe
and not usable for K-Meleon in this form.
In KM-F we can use FF components plus xul.dll, which
contains the dlls that we have in the KM components
folder, while firefox.exe is separated from that.
The exe from KM 16 is made to work with 80 dlls, and
would not work with the 71 dlls.
Lately I managed to make work the files from KM 16
with the 80 dlls and gecko and configuration from KM-F ,
but in Linux this works only for me, if vcredist_x86.exe
has before been installed into the .wine configuration
folder.
All these variations can only be a proof of concept
or at the most, be a temporary possibility for
security concerned users, who can accept, that some
things will not work completely as they are used
for them to work, although the basic functionality
is allright. As soon as an official KM16 will be
available, it would be the normal choice, at least
for Windows, while it is not yet sure, that these
variations would become obsolete for Linux users,
as the functionality of the upcoming official
KM16 in Linux is not ascertained at all.

Fred

Hello Fred, I do college in Denmark and I wonder if you have to explain how I can make a change in the K-Meleon with Gecko 1.9 as its for a job that I am developing in college, I hope so rs. My email is

What do you want to change for your personal
configuration ?
Kplugins can not be exchanged for new ones,
only existing ones from other variations may
work possibly.
Some existing extensions from the extensions forum
may work, but this can only be checked from case
to case, trying to install them.
If you want to change the menu configuration,
this can be done mostly.
Things that do not work, although they used to work
in the official KM 1.5.3 are probably not fixable
in an easy way.

Not a job for completion of the university, about free software and not for personal use and would like to know how to put the gecko 1.9.xx, the way you put it in version 1.5. Could you explain how it was done so that I can apply in my work, and claims to be putting you in my work. Would help me in this task?
thanks

The gecko files are the files in the components folder.
The folders greprefs and res are also from Seamonkey 2.
The single files in the K-Meleon root folder are also from
Seamonkey, except k-meleon.exe and k-meleon.exe.manifest,
and of course readme and startpage.
All the rest are files from the K-Meleon development,
that means the folders :
chrome, defaults. kplugins, plugins and skins,
and k-meleon.exe and k-meleon.exe.manifest.

Sorry Fred, you could be more clear about the construction? I do not understand very well, sorry again. Because I will submit the software for a bank of teachers and I should be clear about the details of the program. Could you explain step by step if not ask for more?

You also changed the source code of K-Meleon and the compiled not it?
Re: unofficial variation: K-Meleon-S201

I did not compile the source code, but only
put existing pieces together, and added some
.kmm macros to the official ones to make the browser
work better in Linux with wine, and then adapted the
menu to these macros.
k-meleon.exe and kplugins may not be optimized,
but these have not been created by me.
The gecko files in components have been taken from
Seamonkey Tinderbox. The unnecessary dlls for K-Meleon
have been deleted, and this is important. I would
use the components folder as it has been assembled by me.

if the source code has not changed, because the. exe is different from the version 1.5.3 and why. exe in version 1.5.3 does not work in version S201? Sorry if I'm being annoying doing all these questions is more important to me I hope you understand rs. And could spend the detailed step how to build a version with the gecko 1.9 to complete my work

The k-meleon.exe from the official K-Meleon 1.5.3
is made to work with Gecko 1.8.x and the MS files
msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll.
The k-meleon.exe for KM-S (and KM-F) is different,
to work with Gecko 1.9.x and the MS files msvcp71.dll,
msvcr71.dll and in addition mfc71u.dll . It was
made earlier for Hao's versions using 1.9.x Gecko.
The k-meleon.exe for the upcoming K-Meleon 1.6
is made to work with Gecko 1.9.x too, but with
the MS 80's dlls, because it has been compiled
using the VC 8 compiler.
All these k-meleon.exe's and the kplugins are not
made by me, but by Dorian and possibly also by Hao.
