Now, I replaced the chrome-folder with the old one from beta3 and now aggreg8 functioned, not by all feeds, but it works.

It's a bit buggy. A category always needs to be created first. Also, sometimes it's necessary to click on the category so that it first displays in the 'Edit/Delete Field' section before you add a specific feed to that category. Again, it's buggy. I believe the author is still working on it.

It's still very much in development. I can pass along feedback and bugs to the developer.

Andrew,
There are other RSS programs out there besides Aggreg8. Perhaps it is time to look at one of the alternatives.

ndebord, can you provide some links? The only alternative I know of is
Sage, but the screenshot shows that it uses the sidebar, so I'm not sure how it can be made to work in K-Meleon.

The reason Aggreg8 was chosen was because it was easy to add to KM. The others are definitely more complicated and probably not possible. We're having a hard enough time getting integrated Mozilla chrome features to work in KM. Aggreg8 at 44kb is also ALOT smaller than any of the other feed clients available so it doesn't bloat KM much. I might be able to make it a little easier to get started by adding a General category by default and specifying a style in default prefs. Once a style and category are present, things tend to work more smoothly.

jsnj,
Yes, the lack of a general category is the hitch for me. I've been looking at alternatives all along, but everything seems to have at least something wrong with it.

Huh, all of them are stand-alone programs, no? I thought you were talking about Mozilla/Firefox extensions (like Aggreg8).

Rmn,
No, I thought YOU were talking about standalone programs. Perhaps it is best to just stick with Aggreg8 and get some feeds into the default.

rmn,
<<I thought you were talking about Mozilla/Firefox extensions (like Aggreg8)>>
Here are the other extensions similar to aggreg8 that I could locate except for Sage as the site wouldn't load right now.
http://www.wizzcomputers.com/
The Wizz RSS News Reader, is a very simple RSS (Really Simple Syndication) news aggregator. It is an XUL application, implements as a Firefox extension and is absolutely 100% free of charge. Wizz RSS News Reader does NOT contain ANY spyware or adware.

Allow the user to manage a list of rss feed and display one of them in the status bar of the browser, supported languages: English (and French in a near future) No Homepage available

Habari Xenu was directly inspired by Aggreg8 which used to be the only free XUL-based news aggregator back in the day. Early versions of HX had a UI very much like Aggreg8's. Habari Xenu also borrowed ideas from RSS Reader and Sage.

Rmn,
<<So, to list the alternatives to Aggreg8 (in case someone wants to test them):>>
That looks like a comprehensive list. I just tried habari xenu in FF and it looks promising. Will try and look at others over the weekend.
Have a Happy New Year!
