Can't set KMeleon as default browser

Hi, I've installed K-Meleon 1.5.2 and it seems I can't set it as default for http/https links, they are still opened with the previous browser. i've tried to set as default link handler IE and then run the wizard again, but no result. K-meleon appears as default browser in the menu Start, though.

I'm using XP in Italian (maybe this is the problem?) thanks

yes, I tried also the button in Preferences. I had Firefox as default browser and I found somewhere in this forum the suggestion to set IE as default, but it still doesn't work.

Yes that always worked, and was used often until alain developed this setdefault.

For more complicated cases see Default Browser Conflict.

If You have this as K-Meleon with Vista problem visit Brielle's blog. Maybe You find the solution or new ideas to fix Your registry problem in her reg script?

Or use google: e.g. "register https k-meleon"... several words possible.
This was my idea when I realized that You had already tried the common old solutions. That is what we sometimes have to do since forum search became buggy.

I've tried to merge the .reg files posted by disrupted in the linked forum topic, but links were still opened with IE... then I tried to modifify by hand those file types in Tools->Folder options in Windows Explorer and in this way links are opened in KM. very weird....

I also mentioned Brielle - in case You use Vista.
What system are we talking about anyway?

Please pay also attention to other answers in the thread, such as.

Tried disrupted's suggestions. No effect. Went back to file types to find HTTP and HTTPS listed (they weren't before). Removed all references to Maxthon...

That was the last post in the thread. Your registry may have a similar problem.

As I said in the first post, I'm using XP.
In fact I did something similar to that suggestion, I just edited the file type by hand pointing it to K-meleon instead of removing the item
