Installed v1.6 Where are the buttons ??
Posted by: froggy
Date: December 11, 2012 11:06PM

I upgraded from v 1.5.x to 1.6
There are no buttons. No BACK, FORWARD, HOME, RELOAD, HISTORY, etc
How do I get the buttons back?

@froggy

1) about:config
2) kmeleon.toolband.&Main Bar.visibility;true
3) Restart K-Meleon or open new window.

If that doesn't work and you're using an
older windows version, try F2 -> look for Toolbars/General
and disable 'Display Menu Bar as a toolbar'.

You can use VIEW - TOOLBARS menu and see which are checked.

I think this is one of the common problems with upgrade: no msvcp80.dll and msvcr80.dll.

froggy,
download MS Visual C++ and install it

None of the suggestions solved the problem

1. kmeleon.toolband.&Main Bar.visibility; (was already true)
2. "Toolbars/General" does not exist. Only "Toolbars/URL bar" exists (and it was checked)

I use win XP SP2. I will try MS Visual C++ or I guess else I will have to keep v 1.5.x

Thanks

My fault. You had a "Main Bar" with Menu but without buttons.
In W2K I missed the bar. In WinXP SP1 I missed the buttons.

The F2 setting you didn't find is here:
GUI Appearance->Toolbars->General->Menu toolbar->Display Menu bar as a toolbar.

It's only useful to get a menu using old Windows versions.

You should update the C++ libraries or install SP3.
I never used KM with SP2.

@ froggy

You did not say which 1.6 version that you tried. I have not used a 1.6 with XP with only sp2 so I cannot say that not having sp3 is the problem or not.

Might I suggest that you try the beta 2.4 from this location.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1522294/K-Meleon1.6.0_Beta2dot4_en-US.7z

It has generally run just fine. The dll files mentioned a couple of post back are included. It is fully portable, so just make a directory, extract the files from the 7z to that directory and then double click on k-meleon.exe.

Let us know the results.

try the beta 2.4

A very good idea, if it has the libraries.
I remember, that 1.6b2.7z didn't include the runtime libraries,
but they were included in installer version of 1.6b2.

He should look for another switch that hides the buttons:
kmeleon.plugins.toolbars.load;true
If it is false, he can try whatever he wants, but won't get the buttons.
Restart is needed after change.

This is set to 'true' by default in my Beta 2.4 version.

I tried K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta2.4. Nothing changed. No buttons. I made sure I tried all the above suggestions.
I tried to install SP3 but there is not enough free space on my c: drive to install it. - thats what I get for using a dell optiplex GX-1 server from 2002. I will try v. 1.6.0 on my laptop ... to be continued

No I did not download it. Not sure how big that is. I may not have enough space for it. I only have about 200 MB left. I dont think I willl try it. I will try v 1.6 on my laptop tomorrow.

No sense, froggy!
Believe me, that's the reason - no one KM 1.6-1.7 would work without these libraries.
Just visit my link and see - you need only 2,6Mb of space!

Now you are wasting your time.

Yes, Froggy, without it you never see any button.

If you don't want to install the official version which is bigger, try with a liht version I use under Linux, I think it works too under Windows

You can find it on my website:

Thank you.

I love KM and have been agonizing it's demise.

I was trying to install 1.6.0_Beta2 on XPSP3 on a refurbed Dell and could not get the menus until I searched the forums and discovered MSvce8dist.exe.

Long Live K-Meleon
