KM1.6 is much outdated, should be used only if the new version KM74 doesn't work an a very old system, that is on win98 (needs kernelEx for 1.6) and win2000 (can run 74 with dll-wrappers or such tricks). And even on those old systems better install the unofficial version 1.6beta2.6 by JamesD, it has far less bugs.

Anyway, if you do need 1.6 and it has such probs, that vcredist thing must be installed again: VS2005. The link is on the download page below 1.6beta

I'll give that a go

It was so long since I set up the old 1.6, I may have forgotten that gem

I do prefer K-Mel 74 but it runs a bit slow (on some sites and at odd times) not to mention that for a while I could not open 74 from a file or link

Although I worked out a solution to that and can run either 1.6 or 74 with a simple change (add or remove ";" from an ini)

It is the adverts of the sites that make all browsers slower.
Several adv. blockers available from the firefox addon site.

Adblock plus as full fledged addon is a bit heavy but BluHell Firewall is lighter and mostly works.

Does Firefox run faster under same conditions? You could test with a portable version.
I run FirefoxESR 31 and K-Meleon 74 under the same conditions (one and the same ad filter for both) and I can't see any difference in speed.

ESR 31 might have a little faster JS engine.

Anyway I can see on what browsers are waiting in the stats bar.:O

It is add mongers' pages/data.sad smiley

p.s. What I 'd like to have was an addblocker like BluHell but that can be edited via a user interface.

I dont know about firefox as my only FF is running on Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) so hard to compare browsers accross platforms (even if they are both on same PC)

My compare was between K-Mel's all using the same settings (AFAP)
