K-Meleon Web Browser Forum
Almost every time I run Kmel, I receive a notice asking if I want to download the latest Kmel.
Here's the version I am running: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:24.0) Gecko/20140105 Firefox/24.0 K-Meleon/74.0.
As far as I know, this is the latest Kmel. Why am I still receiving update notices? How do I get them to stop?
I also received an update notice. But I think it is wrong alarm. XP PRO Sp3.
24.0 is a generic name Firefox bug.
Right click on Xul.dll = 24.8.0.5362. That is probably the newest. 2014.09.06 Y.M.D.
Files in folders and archives might have be updated later. But looks like last month.

There exists a newer version with gecko31, but that's not a final version yet (alpha or beta), so probably shouldn't pop up. And have recently read somewhere in an old version that it should check only once a week or so. And it certainly should stop if you decline it. Which probably requires writing rights somewhere...
Anyway, to stop this automatic check (and the alerts), remove the checkmark in:
F2 > K-Meleon Plugins > Update Checker

One more notice about buggy updater:
russian comrades report that portable build of KM74 final is updating with the same version but with installer.
Possible solutions: switch the updater off for portable, or change the target address somehow.
I don't understand. Other browers update themselves every few weeks.
K-Mel doesn't do that?
So K-Mel doesn't update unless there is a new release?
Then it tells you there is a new release to install?
Why update when there is no new release?
Yes.
K-Meleon checks every week or so whether there is a new release.
If Yes, he asks You whether he can download the update.
And You can install it when You have time.
p.s. I do not like fully automated updates.
I always install K-Meleon updates in a new folder with a version specific name.
K-Meleon will start the exe I want from a desktop icon/link.
Not like Firefox with an arbitrary "newer" one that some dev thinks must be started.
With SeaMonkey which I use as E-Mail etc. I switched off automatic updates.
After 2.25 came two versions where the things I use where broken. I had to reddownload a 2.25 and replace it.
