My K-Meleon is installed on the D:\ drive with all files and profile, two days ago it started as if I had just installed it with no bookmarks, home page, sessions or any other settings
1.) This profile location is triggered by the presence of the file profile.ini in the folder where K-Meleon.exe is. The file can be empty.

On inspection it had made a new profile & Profile.ini in
C:\Documents and Settings\MyUser\Application Data\K-Meleon\
2.) This profile location is triggered by the absence of this file called profile.ini.
Solution: Create file with that name. The file can be empty. The file must be placed into the folder of K-Meleon.exe.
After that KM will normally revert to use the old profile in D:/K-Meleon7.5.1/profiles/c8svm2gy.default
c8svm2gy.default = typical random name. Used by a profile I use for years on different installs of KM
This problem comes usually if a crash or anti viral program has tempered with the file called profile.ini
The other posters in this thread already covered the other possible problems.
Just in case. Make sure that You have full rights to c8svm2gy.default or whatever Your profile's name is. Or better the whole K-Meleon install folder.
Right click on folder opens Windows properties....
3.)
profiles.ini is the name of the new file in C:\Documents and Settings\MyUser\Application Data\K-Meleon\
That file points to the name and location of the folders of the different profiles.
Actually there is another at D:/K-Meleon7.5.1/profiles/profiles.ini
If not?
Create it and use the code below as example.
This file is more often damaged than profile.ini,
The effect is a new virgin profile next to the old profile.
In the case I chose above the file says:
[Profile0]
Name=default
Path=c8svm2gy.default
IsRelative=1
Default=1
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
Which are the setting of the K-Meleon that writes this text for me and You.
It will be used as soon as Your/my K-Meleon.exe finds a profile.ini when it starts.
p.s. profile.ini is the file that makes K-Meleon portable. Your old setup.
That also made versions up to 1.7 compatible to win98 and other old Windows versions.
So there are two files with a similar name and different functions.
