IE often does this too and it drives me nuts!
When I r-click a link to open in a new window, then switch back to the original window (due to annoying no status bar when you do open in new background window) when the new window finishes loading (or possibly when it starts to get the data) it steals the focus and puts itself into the foreground.
You can also see this by opening a new window, minimizing it. It will unminimize itself and throw itself on the foreground.
yes, the new window should get the focus when it's opened but it should not re-recieve the focus after the page loads.
im not sure what you mean about no status bar with open in the background though... it seems to work a-ok for me...
