Doesn't properly open URL like: http:/cgi-bin/...

IE and netscape 4.7 interpret a URL like "http:/cgi-bin/..." to be on the current host, and go to the /cgi-bin directory to get the script/whatever. Kmeleon tries to contact hostname "www.cgi-bin.com" and fails.

Since all of my daily work revolves around getting info from a website that has many links like the one above, kmeleon is useless to me at work. I'm not sure if this is a kmeleon bug or a mozilla bug.

If you fix this, please let me know adnd I'll give kmeleon another try.

uh... that's a webpage bug. http:/cgi-bin/ is not a valid uri. /cgi-bin/, on the other hand, is a valid link and works properly in k-meleon. You may want to contact whoever made that page and tell them it's broken.

Thanks for the reply Brian,

I'm willing to believe that it is a bad URI, but since it does work properly with IE and netscape, I don't think that the page maintainer (my boss) will be too open to modifying his code so it generates better HTML. I'm working on the replacement for that site, so I'll avoid the problem in the future.

just as a note, there seem to be quite a few cases where IE will 'assume' certain things in order to make a poorly written page function to some degree... one example is a site that had their servers default file type accidentally set to 'text/plain' instead of 'text/html'... predictably, k-meleon displayed the source in the browser window, but, somewhat surprisingly (to me, anyway) exploder actually rendered the page...

of course, all this ultimately does is make people careless (or worse, confuses them as to how they're SUPPOSED to be doing things).

two more of my cents =)
