I had just selected my Netscape bookmark file mentionned above:

This is part of the K-Meleon install dialog.

Due to this unfortunate crash, I had no alternative but to start my K-Meleon bookmarks from scratch.

Same problem here. But it's even worse for me, because after the first crash (like Robert's) I tried to import my bookmarks via Preferences/Plugins/Bookmarks, which should happen the next time K-Meleon gets started. Now the program crashes all the time when I start it - and the whole computer freezes.

Is there an INI-file where I can delete the pointer to Netscapes bookmarks, so that K-Meleon can start again?

I like the browser very much (I'm using Netscape 4.75 atm), but I need access to my bookmarks ...

I really don't know what could be crashing kmeleon without seeing your bookmark file, and I assume you don't want to send me that.

About my bookmark file:
- it's in C:\Programme\Netscape\Users\default
- it's 556 KB big (yes, I've lost controll ...)
- it might have some strange characters in it, not just German umlauts (ä,ö,ü) but also strange ones that were created out of the umlauts by an old version of Netscape that wasn't in German. Now I'm using a German Version again, but they are still there. They look like characters from other languages followed by a thick line (?).
- I'm sure it has more than the 1024 entrys KM can handle

Netscape 4.75 loads it quite quick, very different from Mozilla in which it takes far too long.

I hope this info helps you. I could also try to send you an extract of an entry with those characters (if you think that's the problem).

that may be the problem. can you remove the entries with the strange characters and try loading the file again. if it doesn't crash any more, can you send me a sample bookmark file with those strange characters in it? my email is in the about box.

Hmm, many entries to look through ... Or I`ll try it the other way round: export such an entry to an new bookmark file and load it - if it crashes ... :-)

I'm at my parent's house at the moment - BTW, have a nice christmas everybody! - but I'll try it when I'm back home in Berlin.

(Is there still the problem with more than 1024 entries?)

Okay, tested it with a (small) bookmark file full of expoted 'strange characters' and umlauts, and K-M loaded it without any problems. Fine.

My next guess would be, that it's far too big.

But it shouldn't freeze my whole computer. That makes testing a bit frustrating :-(
