When heading to https://www.hotmail.com, it gives an error saying:
You cannot connect to www.hotmail.com because of an unknown SSL error (-12276)
and pops up an empty window & that's it. It could be b/c the name of the site on the SSL certificate (LC1.LAW13.HOTMAIL.PASSPORT.COM) does not match hotmail.com. Would be nice to have "view site anyway" option like all other browsers.

Heh? Shouldn't that just be http://www.hotmail.com ?
I've used Hotmail with K-M no problems, so maybe it's just a syntax error on your behalf.
Yes, a traceroute to https://xxxxx gives a host not found message.
A traceroute to http://xxxx is ok.
So probably there is no secure www.hotmail.com
