Netscape Bookmarks Toolbar Resource Leak (K-M Beta)

K-Meleon Beta Version 0.6.5 Build 387
System: Windows 95 OSR 2.x with USB support and many many updates.

Enabled plugins:

- Toolbar Control Plugin
- Netscape Bookmark Plugin
- Rebar Menu Plugin
- History Plugin

Using Windows 9.x start rsrcmtr.exe to display resource meter, have
a look at the used resources. (I don't know if Windows NT/2k/XP is
also affected by this bug.)

I must admit that I have lots of stored bookmarks in bookmarks.html -
the file itself has around 80 KB, but that shouldn't be the problem.

1) Normal resource usage:

- Put windows taskbar one row up, so that it appears as two rows.
- Start K-M with *disabled* netscape bookmarks toolbar.
- Open *lots* of new windows using [Ctrl.]&[N] (e.g. until the scroll bar on
the right side of the taskbar appears) *and* have a look at resource
meter
- Resources should be way down, even a warning may appear.
- Close about half of the windows and look at resource meter: Resources
should get freed.
- Go on with closing windows, keep last K-M window open: Resource meter
should be nearly around the same level as it was when you started K-M.
- Close K-M: All resources should be available again.

2) Buggy Netscape Bookarks Toolbar

- Put windows taskbar one row up, so that it appears as two rows.
- Start K-M, enable netscape bookmarks toolbar. Note: It does not
have to be shown, enabling it is enough (!).
- Try opening as many windows as before (if you can!).
- Close half of the windows and look at resource meter: no change in
resource usage will be shown, no resources are freed.
- Go on closing widnows, keep last K-M- window open: Resource meter
still shows the same level (!!) that it showed when *all* windows
were open. => BUG!
- Close last K-M window: All resources should be available again.

K-Ms overall resource usage could be better, but ^that^ is a clear
and obvious bug, I think. - Mark, Andrew, anyone?

BTW: It would be nice to be able to open another instance of K-M if
I want to. So I don't lose all my open windows if it crashes, e.g.,
just like it was possible with the early versions of K-M (till 0.31).

Thx - and sorry for my bad english.

Ra,

That's one for Mark to review. With all of the changes he's made to Bookmarks, he knew stuff like this would creep up.

So, is he anywhere around the block? :-)

Ra,

Actually, Mark isn't available to work on that right now. But I'll make sure our other coders see that.
