Okay, I ran this test with that other program closed. I'm running win98 SE. Trying to duplicate this "illegal operation" worked about 17 out of 20 times.
This happened twice by accident, but this is how I was able to duplicate it:
enter a line of chat, hit enter or send. I had one other layer opened to about:blank (one time I had two other layers open, with misc web pages loaded). I enter the line of chat, click back and forth on the two layers, soon KM will crash. The first time I received an "illegal operation" message, and got that a couple more times, but the majority of the time, km would just close without any error messages. This only affects the current window and included layers. One time I didn't realize I had another window open, but I ran the test, the window and two layers I had open crashed, but the second window remained open. phpMyChat is rather sluggish, it has to refresh constantly; tonight was the first time I tried using it. I'm also on a dial-up connection, I'm sure it would work much smoother on a broadband connection, but the question is, would km crash anyway? Perhaps it's a Mozilla or Gecko bug, I haven't been able to find anything on it yet.
I checked for another site running phpMyChat and found one at
http://www.fictionaddiction.net/chat/phpMyChat.php3
the first time earlier tonight when I encountered this error was on the copy that I just installed at
http://www.ponderations.net/chat/ You're welcome to use that one and run as many tests as you care to, I'll clear it with my friend who's the actual webmaster of that site.
If you'd like any more information, let me know. Hopefully I didn't waste anyone's time writing this, including my own.
K-meleon normally doesn't crash on my computer. Also when I updated to 0.8.1 I uninstalled .8.0 , the only thing I migrated over was my bookmarks file.
