Hi! I have a problem regarding the mediaplayer it seems that when I'm going to watch a mediafile on a page, let's say for insatance right here on k-meleon I always get a message saying that I need a plugin to watch the mediafile. The plugin needed is something about application/x-mplayer2 needed to run this movie. Can someone help me to answer what this means? I have the plugins needed as far as I can see and I'm running under win98se.

Hi! I should say that when I'm talking about k-meleon I mean that just as an example
nothing else because there is no mediafiles here okay. So it's just an example nothing else. Oh and I'm using k-m 0.9 for that matter if someone wonders okay.

In Your example the page offers mimetype: application/x-mplayer2
( which can be played with media player - but with some other players too )

The message = from default nullplugin (npnul32.dll // "npdefpluginpro.dll" is better)
& means that the needed plugin or applicaton is not found and listed in about:plugins

You can test how new k-m reacts to differnt codes calling music plugin:
http://home.htp-tel.de/sterntaler/test.html#plugins

If You read German a little the link will give You a list of mimetypes:
http://en.selfhtml.org/diverses/mimetypen.htm

New 0.9.12 and 1.0b test versions both can use Your Windows Media player
if active x support is activated or installed and activated respectively.

You can influence which player is used for a mimtype via Mtypes by Monkee-Sage.

How far is You newest skin project ? Greetings to Sweden

Maybe we have missunderstandig:

You want to use Windows Media player?
If You use 0.9.12 ? You must activate active x under tools to use the media player.

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=34847&t=34847

other problem with that media player:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=3&i=7740&t=7739

If You want to use active-x and windows media player with Dorian´s
You can use Hao´s issue and update.

Or You install Yourself - You find info at
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/kmeleon.html

Use what is recommended for the same FF version.

With alternative player it is best to use one that can "steel" (take away)
the mimetype from windows media player.

X-MPLAYER2 Plugin Problem -- THE SOLUTION
Posted by: Pierre

I run Vista and when I tried to view videos online, I would get a message window telling me that I needed the x-mplayer2 plugin. If that is your problem, here is the solution.

According to this website:

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/netscape.public.mozilla.general/browse_thread/thread/213fcdcf9455913b/e826018bac479b7f?hl=en&lnk=st&q=mplayer2+plugin#

MPlayer 11 has a flaw that prevents browsers from recognizing the plugin. The video would display in IE but not in Kmeleon.

The solution is

1) Go to the follwing website:

microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/en/default.asp

and download the PLAYER PLUGIN FOR FIREFOX (in the VERSION dropdown menu below the WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER box).

2) Install the software.

3) Go to the following folder on your computer: C:/PFiles/Plugins and copy the file name np-mswmp.dll to your kmeleon/plugins folder

Voila.

application/x-mplayer Windows Media player support plugin

WMP 11 has not only the DRM trap put repeats some old bugs. Remedy from gemal.dk.

I'd recommend installing Mozilla WMP plugin service if You are using the K-Meleon 1.x . The installer is designed for the latest versions but it is AFAIK usable for all K-Meleon variants that are based on GRE 1.8.x! If it does not work for an older variants based on Geko 1.8 - set kmeleon.netplug.npmozax.dll to true via about:config.

For other and other/older Mozilla and K-Meleon browsers You have to use the older versions of the activeX support plugin.

Each active X support plugin belongs to a Gecko variant (not to a specific browser). For some Mozilla browsers You use the installer service. For older K-Meleon: Unpack, distribute files to the appropriate (same folder name as inside the archive) folders, remember to delete ./components/compreg.dat & ./components/xpti.dat.
