K-Meleon getting really slow

Some time ago i noticed my k_meleon was getting very slow. After completely loading a page, after opening a new tab, after closing a tab, it simply didn't respond for a few seconds.

While browsing the .slt folder, i noticed that there were a lot of files named like "prefs-*.js". i opened a few of those, saw that they contained pretty much the same things, and i deleted them, all but "prefs.js".

After doing this, my K-Meleon moved just like the first time i ran it (fast, that is).

I was wondering if there is any way to prevent K-Meleon from creating those files "prefs-*.js", as they obviously slow it down.

thanks

In your case K-Meleon seems not to have the user right to overwrite
the existing prefs.js , and therefore tries to create a new
prefs.js everytime it wants to write into prefs.js.
You probably use Windows Vista or a Linux distro. Try to change
your user rights for the Browser.

well, my prefs.js isn't read-only, i'm running win2k and i have administrator rights. oh and no program is restricting access to that file.

anyway, looks like the problem is solved (at least for me) because i wrote a program that deletes those files every monday.

thanks
