This not happen in Win200 SP4.
Are you tried it in 1.1.4?
Are you tried to close the layer without accelerator Ctrl+W?

Very curious.

Have you tried to create a new profile to test if the problem is the same ?

Are you using defaul K-Meleon configuration or are you changed/modified/custom something as accelerators, macros, ...?

As JujuLand says tried with a new profile with default values.

thanks for trying to help me solve this problem.

no, i tried both. i created new profile with no changes in k-meleon configuration, still the same problem. then tried to reinstall whole application, problem persits.

it happens only when i leave this search bar opened and trying to close a layer. when i close the search bar before i close a layer, everything is ok.

i also tried to reproduce it in system safe-mode. the same...

Also i tried in WinXP SP2 and close OK.

Check if you have requirements to run K-Meleon in your Win98.

This could be an old library version problem.
Could some one confirm us if he/she have or haven't this problem in Win9x?

You say an interesting thing.

The problem occurs after after you leave the searchbar opened. Which searchbar ? The one in extension ? If yes, disable it (Preferences) and test again.

I haven't had problem with it, but who knows ...

no, no extension. i meant search box that appears when you press ctrl-f. i wrote "bar" because it is above status bar and it looks like a bar. winking smiley

to desga2: i also tried to install this vcredist application from microsoft download page just when you refer to it in your first message, but you know... still the same.

hmm... maybe ill try to reproduce it on another hard-disc with win98se i have. i will write my results.

thanks everybody for helping me.

so as i said i finally tested it on another disc with win98se and it does the same. i dont have any idea where the problem might be. maybe because i like to tweak my operating system so i changed something somewhere which has some effect on this behavior or i dont know... it cannot be connected to any running application, because its happening also in system safe-mode. surely it will be great if somebody with win9x will write here and tell his/her experiences with this.

anyway k-meleon is fast and compact browser with many useful functions, but this behavior is quite annoying. this "washed out screen" as seen above can only be turned to normal when i switch to another application (opened in fullscreen to overlay the whole screen) and then switch back to k-meleon.

now i think that this problem that happens to me is due to old graphic drivers, but i already have the latest possible drivers (which are quite old, but it is because this graphic card i use is quite old today).

Can you tried to disable rebarmenu plugin in Edit -> Preferences -> Plugins?

I remember that this plugin had problems in olds Win9x versions.
