running 1.5.1. as soon as k-meleon starts, the title bar flashes ?????? and then shows the first letter of the title, and nothing more. i have changed the prefs to various strings of text but the same behavior occurs. i have searched all over these forums and google with no results. thanks.

What windows version are you using?
What K-Meleon version are you using and what locale/languge?
What page are you loading to show "????" in title?

every page does this. my start page is blank, so it shows "about:blank" in the address bar and ?????? in the title (but only for half a second!) and then simply "a".

each page after that shows the first character of the title and nothing else.

Are you using some K-Meleon translation?
This is showed only in start tab or in each new tab opened?
Are you tried if this happend if you start with some Home page, as for example: resource:///readme.html

This is not normal, except if your selected language would be
chinese or japanese.
I would try reinstalling the browser, to fix your problem.
You must have had a corrupted download.

To be a bug someone more must can reproduced it.
Can you give us more info for reproduced your problem?
Some screen capture, your language, Windows and K-Meleon versions, K-Meleon Extensions installed and plugins used. K-Meleon configuration.

If when you reinstall it K-Meleon worked fine and now not work fine this must be because you changed something in K-Meleon configuration.
We need know your K-Meleon configuration (prefs.js file).
