When you "Lock the toolbars", the little double bar 'grab spot' on the left disappears. All the icons on that toolbar shift to the left, but any toolbar to the right does not - which leaves a blank spot on the right of any toolbar that has another next to it. I think that when the toolbars get locked, all toolbars in a row should scoot over and occupy the extra space.

It is a minor issue, but can waste a fair bit of space depending on how many toolbars you have in one row (and it looks a little goofy, too).

Go to Edit - Configuration - Browser Configuration and add one or both of the following BOOLEAN prefs by right-clicking:

kmeleon.display.toolbars_line Set to false. Hides the lines.

kmeleon.display.lockedToolbarAlt Set to true. Fixes the spacing issue.

For these 2 particular prefs, not really, not that I know of anyway. Sort of buried in forum postings and beta pages.

Well, it's a good idea update this wiki page!
Please open a new thread "Update Preferences Wiki page" in Development forum and add in it all preferences you think must be added in the Preferences wiki page.
All people in the community can colaborate in this update with the preferences that they known like tricks for setting K-Meleon.
When we have a good collection, I can update the Preferences wiki page.

well, paying a little more attention, i see that the second option above leaves the blank spot at the left instead of the right for some toolbars. i was making a feature request to have the icons AND any toolbars in the same row to shift over and occupy the empty space.
i noticed that the URL bar and the Tab bar both expand to fill the space, so there is no little grey spot on either side. all the other toolbars (that i use) leave a little empty spot where the bars were.

i set the tab, bookmark, and URL bar to 3000, the space is still present on the other bars.
I would like the bars to shrink when locked, because that "grabber bar" space is not necessary - thus every bar to the right of it would slide over, leaving any blank or empty space ONLY at the right of the rightmost toolbar.

does, it does NOT minimze the spaces - it even disables my "3000" tweak.

So the action should go like this:

[1] Close K-Meleon (plus the loader, if running)
[2] Find your prefs.js in your profile folder
[3] make a backup Copy of it.
[4] Open it, search for "user_pref("kmeleon.display.lockedToolbarAlt", true);"
[5] Delete that line
[6] Search for "user_pref("kmeleon.toolband. etcetera" lines
[7] Edit the values in the "sizes" lines of the URL, Tabs, and Bookmark toolbands to 3000
[8] Save & close prefs.js
[9] Done - start K-Meleon

i still got spaces, man. this is something that needs to be addressed in the code, i think. when locked the toolbars should shrink, and each toolbar that now has extra space to its left should scoot over. only the furthest right toolbars should expand to fill up any blank space. right now when they lock, the icons either shift left or stay centered (based on the ToolbarsAlt setting), but the size of the bar stays the same - so removing the 'grab bar' just leaves blank space. making certain bars super huge might work if they are 1 of 2 per line or the leftmost or rightmost bar or something, but it is not working with my layout.

this is just my personal preference, and a very minor issue. and so i went and adjusted the size of each bar i use to look 'just right'. thanks for all your suggestions, folks.

two of those spaces can be nuked by editing the toolbars.cfg:
the Globe can become part of the Main bar, and the zoom buttons can go into the Go bar, in your arrangement.

Btw, are you aware you can switch off the "URL" text being shown in front of the Urlbar? That's in F2 -> GUI Appearance -> Toolbars

It depends where you put them. I put Grabber++ and Readability to the right and do not have blank gaps. But if I put them to the left, Grabber++ and Readability get double spaces. And it looks ugly.

New tab, search icon, extension manager, FSC, Page Zipper - all have blank gaps attached.

Please, make a Remove blank spots macro.

Its not the toolbar line I want removed, its the empty gap before the actual bar in the toolbars.

If you mean the space where the vertical dotted line ( grab handle ) is shown when unlocked, I think closing that space would break something. If that space went away, then the positions of the toolbar would change. It cannot change because you have just locked the toolbars.

The gap at the beginning of the Tab Bar goes away when multiple tabs are loaded. I still think its possible to do that even when only one tab is showing and in the URL Bar without breaking anything.

Maybe it is just my old eyes, but I cannot detect a change when I open tabs two and three.

ainsi, de payer un peu plus d'attention, je vois que la deuxième option ci-dessus laisse place vide à la gauche au lieu du droit pour certaines barres d'outils. je faisais une demande de fonctionnalité pour avoir les icônes et les barres d'outils dans la même rangée de passer plus et occuper l'espace vide.
