I love this feature in Firefox, it allows one to drag & drop text to another tab a URL bar, search box, and find box.
You can use Drag & Drop for search - just install SearchBar Plus kplugin that adds search box, supporting D-n-D.

There is an alternative mouse gestures plugin that offers some but limited drag and drop functions.
The Firefox feature of complete drag and drop support between tabs and bars relies on the Firefox XUL based GUI. That GUI is IMHO one of the reasons why Firefox needs more resources and is less directly sensitive to user input.
