Firefox Add-ons

Hey, I'm new to K-Meleon and was just wondering wether there is any possibility of using/installing Firefox Add-ons?? I don't like Firefox very much, I had switched to Opera last year, but they just can't manage to solve some flash-app problems, so I really fed up with bug reports all the time.
But even if I droped Firefox, I sorely miss some of the Add-ons, e.g. flash video downloaders ("FVD Suit") or "Stylish" where you can customize pages like Facebook or studiVZ, but the codes only seem to work with Firefox =( every attempt to integrate the designs with Opera or K-Meleon failed.

Sorry if I just overlooked something in the FAQ's (wouldn't be unlikely, I hardly understood some parts of it as I'm a German native speaker).

And another little problem: the "Plauderkasten" (kind of chatbox) in studiVZ dosen't work properly, I've tried to allow all sort of cookies, but after the window has opened, it won't finish loading.

The system is different, so FF addons can't be used without conversion. That can sometimes be simple and other times near impossible - or so I've read around here (personally have no clue about conversion, being just a simple user, although dabbling with building own macros).

For K-Meleon, 'addons' are called extensions or macros, they are nearly all user-submitted and can presently be found here:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/list.php?9 (with screenshots and descriptions)
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/macrolibrary (tiny descriptions but links to more)
http://kmext.sf.net (HUGE but tiny descriptions)
http://extensions.geckozone.org/K-MeleonEn (English + Francais)

Many are on several of these sites, others may only be found on one, it's mixed.

Guess I've seen a "stylish" somewhere, but not sure. Generally CSS-styles should work in KM too, you just need a fitting macro first to import them smiling smiley

There seem to be more and more layout probs with KM1.5x, due to the older gecko engine :-/ Some can be worked-around (see FAQ), but my daily browser is now KM1.6beta2. Works fine for me, with some later additions, but it still has a couple bugs, so I can't wholeheartedly recommend it yet for everyone. So can't wait for a beta3!

And another little problem: the "Plauderkasten" (kind of chatbox) in studiVZ dosen't work properly, I've tried to allow all sort of cookies, but after the window has opened, it won't finish loading.

1.) Firefox Addons/Extensions can not be installed. K-Meleon is no Firefox clone. K-Meleon has a GUI that is not based on Firefox XUL. K-Meleon is merely using the same rendering engine as Firefox. So some talented ppl have adapted Firefox Extensions for K-Meleon's use but that is not possible with all Firefox Extensions.

Mozilla plugins are another matter. Most are recognized by K-Meleon at their default install location. If not Firefox Extensions that are Mozilla plugins can be usually extracted from their installers. XPI is just another name for Zip. They will work after they are placed into ./K-Meleon/plugins.

2.) Flash is notorious for its many bugs - that is not just an Opera problem.
The Flash Player must be updated often.

3.) Firefox CSS hacks can be also used in K-Meleon's userdefined.css Bearbieten, Konfiguration, Benutzerdenfinierte Stilvorlage. The files and their usage is identical since both Browser use a Mozilla GRE (Gecko Rendering Engine).

Stylish exists for K-Meleon http://kmext.sourceforge.net/ext7.htm
F3 & keyword: stylish

Stylish

control websites visuals and content display manner through custom css styelsheets for every site. get styles there: http://userstyles.org/
menu entry: tools>stylish
extra notes: extension uses components. please read FAQ for install help.
versions supported: 1.1.x - 1.5.x -1.6.x

Flash video downloads are possible for K-Meleon via hacked Flash-plugins and K-Meleon extensions.

4.) For "Plauderkasten" try with Extras, Browserkennung, Firefox.
If that does not work for K-Meleon 1.5.4 try with the stable "Letzte Entwicklerversion" @ http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/download.php?switchlang=de
that is 1.6beta2en-US and also with the setting that camouflages as Firefox.

Cave when You try to install 1.6 You need to create an new install folder. K-Meleon setup will always offer to install into the K-Meleon folder, where the last install was. This will overwrite Your current install - which is no good. So chose a new, unique name like K-Meleon1.6beta2en-US instead.

You get most of 1.6's menus to appear in German if You copy the .locales folder from 1.5.4 to 1.6beta2. Also synchronise the two skins folders if You intend to use the same Profile for both versions (the profiles are compatible).

Greetings
