Hello,
please integrate an automatic update function. There is an alert announcing a new version, however no possibility to let it update on its own.
Also, when installing a new version over an old one, it deletes everything of the old version instead of updating it. This deletes also the old profile with all the data in it, which is very bad. Restoring the prvious state in the new version is only possible if it was separately saved and not obvious how (very difficult). Also there is no warning to save the previous profile in order to keep it. This should be very easy to integrate. Therefore a true update function is very necessary and urgent. Thanks.
Yes updating is difficult if a lot was customized, but no, it's not that easy as you think. Therefore I can't see it happening anytime soon. There's just too much user stuff stored outside the profile in various places, e.g. skin button configs - unless a user has copied the default skin folder himself or is using another skin (and lately even has to copy the template toolbars.cfg himself). And user macros are by default stored in the root folder too, but they have own names which protects them from being overwritten.
But are you sure your old profile is really lost, not just elsewhere? The location can easily be forgotten when switching between portable and installation-versions (=empty file "profile.ini" exists inside KM root folder or not), but that doesn't usually mean the old folder were deleted. Perhaps try creating that file if it doesn't exist, or rename if it does, then restart.
Edit>Configuration>Profile folder opens the current profile folder in a filemanager. Other profile folders can be in the same parent folder. And this parent folder is either inside KM root or in the systems user appdata somewhere.
But profiles are never intended to be lost accidentally when updating. If I remember right there was only a fatal bug with some 75.1beta versions under certain circumstances (portable profile, updated 2x) where this could happen.
(sig) New unofficial K-Meleon 76.4 (KMG76.4) available, in own subforum.
Based on Goanna engine, called 'test' builds forever but more stable as 75.1 acc. forum members. It's 1-2 generations ahead of predecessor KM76RC-2016

Vorbehalt der Zerstörung durch Sicherheitsoftware oder System.
Was da wahrscheinlich passiert ist. Es gibt zwei Setup Methoden. Portable und Normal.
Du hast zwischen Ihnen gewechselt oder bei Portable ein neues Installationsverzeichnis benannt/angefangen.
Sonst kommt noch ein Crash mit Verlust der Daten für den Pfad zum Profil in Frage.
Auch da sind die Daten nicht gelöscht.
Du findest das "verweiste" Profil in Anwendungsdaten ./K-Meleon/... oder im K-Meleon Verzeichnis/Profiles/...
Genau wie beim Wechsel zwischen Portable oder Normal.

But are you sure your old profile is really lost, not just elsewhere?
