Editing in the address field

Very frustrating: (Edited!)
If you try to edit an URL in the address field by deleting the end part of the URL (from the cursor position to the end) by Ctrl-End Ctrl-Del, the whole URL disappears!
Would be great if this could be repaired!!!

I thought it's Shift+End?

Shift+End? This is only marking.
Ctrl+Del is the standard in most programs, I think.

Ok, this is maybe just a personal experience. However:

- Ctrl+Del deletes in Word to the end of the word.
- The same in LO/OO Writer.
- As in Windows Editor, also in most other programs I know it deletes to the end of the word or of the line.
- Same behavior in the Google search field.
- Moreover, this seems to be a standard for Windows too, even in specific situations which can be compared with the KM address field: in the editing field when renaming a file in Windows Explorer, or in the address field of the Windows Explorer.

K-Meleon is the first case for me where this doesn't work. But I may be wrong, of course.

(But at least Ctrl+Del should not delete the whole URL!!!)

It all depends on how much is highlighted when the delete key is pressed.

No, I am speeking of the "editing" situation, i.e. there is nothing highlighted.

This is a situation which can be compared to many other address or name fields in other programs where editing is possible in the same way, as already mentioned in my previous post (Google, Windows Explorer ...). I would think my examples are impressive enough.

Tested in some editors and in one of Chrome clones.

Yes, it seems to behave so (but in command line of TC it deletes all after the cursor).

But KM handles URLbar by itself so only Dorian decides how it's done.

Post a feature request in corresponding subforum.

Is this here not the feature-request forum?

The prob is that currently we have only one developer who does it in his spare time, and implementing new gecko engines creates so many bugs already, that he can't possibly fix even all of those. So I wouldn't hold my breath for this - sorry - teeny tiny peanut prob. He may, or not, but how many people even know about that shortcut, regardless how many programs may use it? So personally I'd hang that priority rather low. But I have no say in the matter anyway, so don't mind me

But here's a tip:
perhaps you could bear it better if only the deletion doesn't happen?
Because THAT sure is really a pain - if someone doesn't know that the URLBAR can easily be "reset" to the original adress by right-clicking the Go-Button.
And it's also easy to disable the deletion completely by a workaround:
just define yourself a user shortcut for Ctrl+Del that does nothing.
Or perhaps does the urlbar-resetting? How:
Open the accel.cfg in your profile dir (Edit>Configuration>Accelerators)
and add this:
CTRL VK_DELETE = macros(Go_Reset)

Not sure how to define "nothing", perhaps try
CTRL VK_DELETE =
or
CTRL VK_DELETE = 0

New shortcuts (accels) will work after a restart.
PS: this command and tons of others can be found in the commands list (Edit>Configuration>Commands list)

Yeah it would be yet better to define a macro that deletes the rest of the line, but have no idea how or if that's even possible.
