I cannot add to the favorites bar. How can I do it. When I go into set up, the tab is not accessible. What am i doing wrong?

Not quite sure what exactly you mean, but out-of-box Favorites are disabled. Must be switched on first in F2>KM Plugins

As Siria pointed out, one must first enable favorites. To do that one must bring up the Preferences menu by pressing the F2 key. On the left side of the Preferences menu there is a tree menu. Select K-Meleon Plugins and then IE Favorites.

Near the top of the IE Favorites panel is a checkbox labled as "Enable support for Internet Favorites". Check that box.

Below that are three tabs. The third tab is for the Favorites Bar. Click on that tab and you will see another checkbox to "Enable Favorites Bar". Check that box.

Just below that is a field to where the folder containing the favorites which will show in the bar can be set. Select the folder that you wish to use there.

At this point you will need to restart K-Meleon.

When K-Meleon has restarted, go to VIEW > TOOLBARS and check the Favorites bar.
