Quirk on ImageLink

If I visit a site like this:
http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/hi_lois/aboutMaina.php

I would like to use Save Image. As a result, I do get as a suggestion for a filename:
Hi_and_Lois?date=20011221.htm
plus it is set to *.htm.

Why is this set to *.htm anyway? (I think I remember something about this in the forum being a little buggie, yes no would be totally enough).

If I choose all files (to get my image saved) it removes everything so I alway have to think of first copy name then switch then insert and then save.

Would it be possible to just let the name be the name and chosse 'all files' right away so I just could add .gif and rename them later? Or have the suggestion and a *.jpg,*.gif etc?

What is the difference anyway if I chose one or the other?

Edit the filename before choosing "all files" and adding an extension (.gif, in the Hi andLois case), that way you won't have a lot of mystery files to sort out. That page is odd, I've never had that problem saving graphics with K-M before. Interesting.
If you make the wrong guess as to the extension, your viewer will be upset about it, possibly rude, unless you are using IrfanView, which will politely suggest renaming the file with the right extension.
http://www.irfanview.com/ in case you need it.

looking at the source for that page, it's easy to see why that would happen... the save dialog is just presenting the image source URL, and offering the default extension (if you don't believe me, right click on it in IE and select 'properties'). i suspect that IE gets around this using the MIME type, which k-meleon isn't very good at, as pointed out in other threads...

I haven't looked at that (and am to lazy to do so) but let me get this from another point:

Why the heck do I get a 'save as html' from the filetypes when I chose 'Save Image'?!

I have to admit (lazy again) that I think that I have to not save an image as
filename.extension with a set 'htm-Webpage'-Type from k-meleon.

If you tell me, it doesn't matter to do so - this would be fine for me. I would ignore the typ-setting and save my file. But this is only me - others will be confused.

The main question remains:
When - which I accept - km isn't good in this, why at least don't I see a typ
Image-File (*.gif, *.jpg, ...)

or something like that? At least, I chose Save Image?

the thing is we are using the same box for saving images as we are for saving html. that's not really an excuse, but it should give you an idea of why it's happening.

Yes, this is clear but it seems I did not point out what I meant.

It should be an available information for the dialogue to
see that it was chosen to be save image. It should be able
to trigger that it is not clearly guessable what this thing is.

In this case I wish that it stops guessing and just provides
me a generic type image.

To give it a realworld example:
If you are in a restaurant and ask for a special drink and
it is out - the least you expect is to be asked what other
meal you want. This is irritating and seems as if the waiter
has no clue of what he is doing there.

But it would be perfectly ok if you where asked what
other drink you want or just the plain question 'what
else do you wantÄ (=all types)

Either you do get a clear jpg / gif info or you have
to guess. But again: When coming from save IMAGE
and no clear guess is possible, I should be presented
*.* all types.

Better?

Yes, but the web page in question is speaking a different language. Or, to put it another way, the menu at this particular restaurant is rather inflexible, and you can order your drinks only in a certain way, and no buffet. ;] The poor waiter (K-Meleon) is just doing the best he can - blame the manager (web designer).

I expect the waiter to be clever enought - even though this is an ugly restaurant - to react on my wishes more than on what the manager wants ;o)))

OK, but there's a lot of weird managers out there. Give the poor guy a break, at least you don't have to tip!!! ;-D
