Cookie crushing

I hate cookies.

I use Cookie Pal with Netscape 4.7, and I can filter all my cookies. I have ATGuard for my firewall, and it has a cookie crusher that I disable so Cookie Pal stays active.

Cookie Pal doesn't work with K-Meleon, and you don't have a cookie notification feature that allows me to accept or reject individual cookies.

I would be a nice improvement if I didn't have to choose between rejecting all cookies and accepting all cookies.

I have tested Cookie Pal with K-Meleon and it worked all right. (You have to replace Mozilla path with that of K-Meleon.)

But CookiePal is shareware, so I decided that it would probably be less trouble to write a macro for PFE (or any other text editor) to open cookies.txt and to put that macro in the Edit menu of K-Meleon (if I ever wanted to edit my cookies). When I had all the cookies I really needed and I had cleaned out the cookies I did not want, I made the file cookies.txt read-only. That disables the addition of any unwanted cookies, lets K-Meleon use the necessary cookies, and sites requiring cookies always let me in.

There is also a thread about that at

another VERY small and fast (more so than notepad, maybe...) text utility that works nicely for editing the files such as cookies.txt with bare newlines ('unix' style) is win32pad, from <a href="http://www.gena01.com/win32pad/">www.gena01.com</a>;.

oh, and the cookie notification pref -

user_pref("network.cookie.warnAboutCookies", true);
seems to work fine if you add it to your prefs.js file.

ajh,

based on this thread I went searching through the all.js in D:\Program Files\K-Meleon\defaults\pref and towards the bottom you will find all the cookie handling preferences. With a couple of substitutions I now have a popup window to allow or deny on a site by site basis (it will remember your choices if you like), and I also was able to deny foreign site cookies completely.

All the control you want is just below your fingertips. Fire up notepad and find your favorite cookie values.

good luck.

Dave
