Is there another way to convert a theme for an older K-Meleon to a theme for the 0.9 version, besides using a picture-editing program?

Martin sorry i do not understand completely - my language problem : o (
forget my answer if i did not understand and answer of topic or wrong.

IMHO: You need an editor and an Irfan Viewer if You only want to adapt them.

AFAIK You have to copy the picture files into a folder together with the configuration files (mainly toolbars.cfg - which are in skins..) that belongs to 0.9 - then You look into the old toolbars.cfg and have/use an Irfan View to look at the picture files. Now You attach pictures and sizes to 0.9 toolbars.cfg untill all is converted. IMHO as long as old pics are of good quality You do not need any picture-editing programs.
and i wish You successful theming

ps. in case You understand: soweit mir bekannt:
also du editierst die neue toolbars.cfg auf die alten bilder und bildgrößen nachdem du sie rüber kopiert hast. als hilfen nimmst du zwei editor fenster und nen irfan view.

It depends on which theme you want to convert. Some older themes have many icons to use for the new v0.9 toolbar features. Others don't. But, you'll need a picture editor if you want to emulate the privacy bar. So which theme do you want to convert?

I want to convert the Orbit Theme. For the toolbars I should have enough icons, but for the menus I could get problems.

I need new menu icons. Are there any ready to go menu icons on the web or do I have to make new icons?

Hi Martin,

You could take the .jar theme of Orbit from either Mozilla, or Firefox (quite sure there's one for Mozilla Suite?) and unjar the file into a folder, search through the different directories for the icons you want and use those.

The problem with this is that the icons are in .png format usually and need to be converted over into .bmp, resized, and then "cleared up", and then they have to have the "magic pink" backgrounds added to them. (255, 0, 255 I believe the RGB is.) Then they're ready for use. Sounds like a chore but it's actually quite fun. smiling smiley

Just remember that if you choose to distribute the theme anywhere on the net to include a ReadMe.txt file in the .zip and give proper credit to all the icon makers, and to yourself as the editor. After all, you deserve some of the credit for adapting and porting, right? smiling smiley

Amicalement,

That is a good idea, but there are hardly any items used for the menu (in Mozilla). So I have three choices - standard K-Meleon menu icons - no items - making new items.

Taking the png files would be a good idea to have the original toolbar icons. For the bookmarks I see a little problem. First there is an icon used for that I can't find the icon in the theme. The icons are normaly yellow, this is green. Could it be that the standard icon is used and then the color is change over a definiton file (in Mozilla)?
The second problem: The icons for K-Meleon are in one parallel line . The icons for mozilla are in two parallel lines (one upon the other). Could I use these icons or must they be put in one line?

The main problem is that I don't know how (or where) the icons for the bookmark icons are definied (in K-Meleon).

Martin,

You do know that Rapido already has done a port of Orbit for K-Meleon? Check it out here: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?id=RapidosReplicas

Just scroll down the page a bit.

As for the problems you've run into "converting" a fully fledged Mozilla theme, well welcome to the club. I managed to convert a couple of Mozilla themes from the original sources (Lo-Fi, Early Blue and Micro) and it isn't an easy process, but with patience you will eventually get there.

If you're still interested in learning the process, drop me an email and I'll explain it to you the best way possible. You can get my email address from one of the "readme.txt" files in my themes.
