Make the translation an installable (.exe) patch.

Hello.

I would like to suggest building a simple program for each language to make an installable language pack (as other popular programs as Nero, for example) and avoid having to edit, copy and paste, the large file of the translation which is a waste of time in my opinion.

Also, think that people who needs a translation would probably be confused by the actual proccess of translation because they don't speak english and it would be easier with a more familiar type of translation proccess, as the type used by some other programs, an "Kmeleon spanish language pack.exe" file or something similar would be great and, I think, easy to build for the people who have been able to build such an awesome browser.

Thanks and have a good day.

No, there's actually no easy way to translate. There no mechanism integrated in K-Meleon to make it, so we must hack exe and jar files to do it. It's the only way we have now.

To do it, it will be necessary to rewrite a great part of K-Meleon (for all the exe and dll) and to find a way to allow choosing the local parts of each jar, as it's in Firefox, and I think it will be difficult, because K-Meleon doesn't naturally use xul.

So, it's hard ...

Ok, but what if ...

Ok about that.

I'm suppossing you're talking about the difficulties to make a program which EDIT the program files, but, if I'm not wrong, when installing a translation you can choose to open the Edit -> Preferences -> Configs -> Menus and modify or simply copy the translated text to a file called menus.cfg and then REPLACE the new one for the original one in C:\Archivos de programa\K-Meleon\Profiles\default\!!!!!!!!.slt\menus.cfg

I'm not a programmer, but, is it really this hard to simply create a zip file with two archives, one the translated copy of menus.cfg and the other a basic *.bat (or *.exe) with a copy command of the style "copy menus.cfg c:\program files\k-meleon ... /y"?

If you say it is I'll believe you, but I wonder if you've really tried.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Well, I think the menu translation alone is not too much hard to do, and I think the menus translations already exists on this site.

I talk about a real and complete translation, and the menus are a tiny part of the job.

Just as an example;
The textlines for the preferences are all in the exe itself.
So everything you see when choosing preferences is text coming from the exe itself and not from a file you can use to make a translation.

I know the menu translation exists (I have my Kmeleon already translated to spanish), I was talking (I'm sure you know) about making the translation proccess easier.

And, if to optimize the translation proccess for the menu only is not really too hard to do, I think this would be gratefully accepted because this is the main translation request for the plain general users (I think this could be easily verificable by counting the times the menu translation page is viewed).

I did something like it for 0.8.2 - i think it is hard to make a translation helper.

In spite of alain ´s different opinion (who is one of the best translators that i know)
we will have to do something to make translation easier.
