Hi All,

First I should tell that I found this browser very useful.

the only thing that bothers me is that it hangs around in memory ( in my XP system's taskmanager) even after i exited it using any of the following methods.

1. pressing the 'X' button.
2. alt+F4 (close windows)
3. ctrl+alt_F4 (exit K-Meleon)

how can this be eradicated.

I am running the k-Meleon preloader. can this be causing this problem?

That is the preloader (as You correctly assumed).
Deactivate the Loader if You need the memory.

p. s. If You deactivate it for a test? - You reactivate it by starting the preloader once.
You will notice that k-meleon will start fast enough without it. Many ppl do not use the loader.
If You have to start the browsers serveral times during a PC session it restarts much faster than any other browser (that is ideal for html page testing). Windows probably keeps the supporting system dll prepared.
