"Close Layer" button

Something that K-melon lacks is a convenient close button on each of its layers. It is one of the main reasons that I prefer Firefox. (I hate right-clicking. A waste of time, if you ask me.)

I hate right-clicking.

What about middle click or double click? They both work.

:-)

This makes me think that what it's really needed is a good brief instructions manual, a short guide with all these things.

I found the double-click to close layer by accident, and a few months later I discovered my girlfriend closing layers with a middle-click, which was even better.

Those were the days when I was discovering a new impressively useful feature each day.

Now it only happens once a week ;-)

The reality is that ALL of these options should be available because people develop their own preferences for browsing. Forcing users to use only one option or another is the wrong way to approach software development.

Depending upon my mind set at the exact moment, the location of my mouse pointer, etc., I tend to use all of the various methods to close a layer---except middle clicking, which I never have used in any browser at any time and I never will.

The default web page context menu should also include a Close option, which I added on my own.

The lack of an individual close button is frustrating because that option is available in Firefox and Opera and I have grown accustomed to using that option too. I am sure other users who use multiple browsers respond similarly.

Please add the ability to enable individual close buttons.

if You double click into an open layer field in the layer bar it closes;
if You double clik an emty space in the bar it opens layer

- why right click or extra field or cross?
Aiming for a spicfic little field is a waste of time.

all options are in about colon config.

btw. I also use more than one browser occasionally - but i try to improve this one.
I am only a user but AFAIK k-meleon devs develop for themselves too - why add code just because other browsers have a specific amenity? Functional is sufficiant.
All added gadjets come for the same price - they slow a little more.

K-Meleon definitely should have an "x" icon on each layer button to close tabs/layers. Why Mozilla Firefox 2 and now Internet Explorer 7 have these? Because it saves time for novice AND experienced users.

You also have double-click, which doesn't take more time.

@Gloria Goodbody:

Last session is saved automaticly. You can recover last session in menu;
View -> Start -> Open Last Session
or;
Right click in toolbar Home icon and select 'Open Last Session'
or use accelerator;
Ctrl+Alt+L

Or you can save layers in a group before exit. In menu: Groups -> Save Layers as Group

Greetings.

I heartily agree.

My own favorite is right clicking to immediately close a tab which is available on Hao's CCF0.05.6.4 version.
[not right clicking to bring up context menu then select close which is inefficient.]

A close button on each tab is also a good.

My internet explorer shell browser provides all the options so its not just firefox which is heavily featured.

Another excellent tab option are small left and right arrows < > on the end of the tab toolbar which when clicked can shuffle all the tabs across the page one by one and hide as many of them as you like, clicking the opposite arrow brings the tabs back into view again.

yeah right. Never heard of ctrl-w? then here you go. and if you get yourself a, attention some advertising, of course, Logitech or similar hundred button mice, then you would be able to bind ctrl-w to a spare button and close layers in nanoseconds.
and switching layers with ctrl+[shift]+tab, is far more efficient.
I have never used the double-click technique or middle-click.

that is so needless
and IMO layers are better. I read in an other thread that the layers should be replaced by tabs. But having layers you always know where your browser is in the taskbar when you open a new layer.

and if you insist to close layers with an X, you still have one under view> something> layer button. AFAIR.

It's just a use... you get used to click on the cross, now you have to get used to middle click!
