Improvement requests :
K-Meleon Web Browser Forum
What I really miss in K-Meleon is a "New Layer" or "New Tab" button like in Opera and other browsers that I use.
Then it would be easier to open up a new tab.

I don't know which version you are using, but at least in 1.1 there already is a New Layer button in one of the toolbars.
View > Toolbars > Layer / Windows Button
This feature has been available since at least 1.02
Also not really needed
because if You double click into an open Tab/Layer field (the little field not the window) it closes - If Ypou double click into the Tab/Layer Bar at any empty space a new Tab/Layer will open for You :p
also don't forget the middle button of your mouse. it works just like a double click

Now I saw it and placed it somewhere where I can see it.
