Every browser I've used I've been able to disable the status bar (for me a totally useless waste of screen space).It's a pity that such a brill browser K-meleon is the blasted status bar will not be disabled when going to a new screen

for me the status bar is quite effective in k-meleon... not having a tabs system that could be customized to show the loading status of the page there and not having a tooltip system that shows me the address of the link you want to click... really makes the status bar a usefull thing.

The status bar can be toggled on or off by going to the View menu and clicking on "Status Bar".

But as dpcdpc11 mentioned, the Status bar is pretty handy. It can also indicate the link of the page you are on. I too prefer to use the Status Bar. Although, I understand it can somehow be hacked to show untrue status of a link or page.
