Mozilla ShowIP extension. Can this feature be added?

I've been a long time user of SeaMonkey since its early days as the Mozilla Suite. After trying FireFox and Opera only to be disappointed, I tried K-Meleon, and am quite impressed. It was a pleasant surprise to find that most of those SeaMonkey extensions I value are built into K-Meleon. There is one extension I find very useful, ShowIP. It displays the IP(s) of the sites being visitied and provides an easy way to query online whois and other online tools. Would it be possible to add the functions of this extension to K-Meleon?
Thanks
Rick

There are a couple of files from the MacroLibrary http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/MacroLibrary which might help you. They are WHOIS.kmm http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/KmmWhoIs and PingBack.kmm http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/KmmPingBack

1.) K-Meleon can not use XUL portions that are manipulated or used to show results upon the user interface. E.g. IP in a status bar segment, or a button...

Another problem with several extensions that could potentially work - You can not hook XUL to a specific K-Meleon Window. AFAIK only a XUL Window (Firefox, SeaMonkey ...) can contain "overlays" that can be used to do that.

2.) Too hard for You or me to adapt the extension unless the extension is like a list or mini application a la "Live HTTP Headers", "mtypes" or "Console2".

Probably easier to use JamesD links. Maybe You can add the features You want.
That might be easier for You I have inclinination or no idea how 2 anyway

When I saw that the functions of many of the extensions I use were actually part of K-Meleon (user agent switcher, flash block, some of the functions diggler provides, etc) I was hoping that adding the ShowIP functions would be possible. It appears that I'm going to have to learn about Macros if I want the other features the SeaMonkey extensions provide.
Thanks.

Definitely! SSM might not have been financially viable for its developers but it's still one of the best security apps around. I'll be using it as long as it runs on my operating systems.

Not status bar, but toolbar.
This is prototype, you should be careful to test.

ipbar-prototype-0.0.0.zip (27k)

Thanks.

@ mark307

I put the dll file in kplugins and I loaded the dll when asked. I see a new bar but I don't see any info in it. Did I do everything I was supposed to do? KM 1.5.2 on XP-SP3

I have had the same problem with 1.1.x

Try to unlock the toolbars and move the IP Adress bar to another place and lock the toolbars again

Then it ought to work

@ Mark307

Thanks, the ip bar works well except with a new bar and button made from a macro using the toolbar plugin. Some placements of the new bar and button conflict with ipbar. I have put some screen shots and copy of the macro into a 7z file here. http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=488972

You need to drill down a couple of clicks for the file download.

I could not see the ipbar at first because the new bar was located at the right end of the line of toolbars.

I thought you might need this data in case of other toolbars created with a macro.

One more small question. Does the ipbar pick up the toolbar background color or does the color just happen to be nearly the color of my background?

Looks like ver 0.0.1 fixed the placement problems. Also the background color is white now. Looks good.

One question I have is what is the purpose of the dropdown? I just see the same IP number.

Dear mark307,

We / I have to thank You for all Your plugins.
Spell check is my most used and favorite installable plugin.
It is fast. Not slow like the check in Thunderbird or Firefox.

All implemented features of Your ShowIP seem to work with my 1.5.2.

Thx for reading my post

p.s. works back for 1.02 (de-AT) / crashes obsolete: 0.9, 08.2, 0.7.1, 0.6.

JamesD
IMHO spare space in case mark307 implements additional features.
Todo(txt):
- ? Show all IPs when host has some IPs.
- ? Canonical name.

The first one may already work on the sites where it is needed.
Changes(txt):
- Show multiple IPs.

Thank you JamesD, guenter, JujuLand.

IPBar plugin (spelltest too) depends on 1.0 API (GetMozillaWebBrowser).

I found some examples that had some IPs,
Google (only jp?),
W3C,
Fedora Project.

Thanks.

It works also with Official 1.5.2 under Linux (Ubuntu 8.10 & Wine 1.1.12)

1.) That explains crashes / thx for info.

2.) German Google also has 3 IP. W3C 7! Feodora 3. Your plugin shows them.

thx for reading my post.

Good to know about the extra ip addresses for some sites. Seems like my bank has 5 addresses on the login page. Is there any way this information can be used in a macro? Could one check the current address against a known good address for the bank?

IMHO they are static IP. Such static IP are AFAIK owned. I do not think that the bank lets one slip away. No idea how to check except try IP at search engine or such program as SamSpade or any other that translates IP.

You IMHO could use IP instead of canonical name in macro, or edited bookmark & session info. That gives You direct way without name resolution. Disadvantage an IP may become obsolete or use for something else.

Thank you for a suggestion. A plugin message was added to receive current shown IPs as string.

ipbar-prototype-0.0.2.zip (28k)

BTW, utils-0.0.8.zip (35k) is also updated.

Thanks.

@ mark307

The ipbar pluginmsgex works great. Now I can check sites like my bank, E-bay, Paypal, etc against known list of ip address for them. Very good work.
