Hi,

as far as I understand the manual, the bookmarks can only be reached by clicking
the 'bookmarks' button. Can I have an additional window with a bookmark-tree
(like in firefox) that is permanently open?

Sidebar isn't implemented yet in K-Meleon.
You can try with this macro.
