how to do K-Meleon Portable

It seems that KM 1.5.3 no longer uses xpcom_core.dll, which was used to allow for relative paths. Is there a way to use KM 1.5.3 to do portable apps?

Tks.

smiling smiley install it on an usb-stick - the old fashioned way, no multiple users selected and have a look inside prefs.js of used profile to see whether it has relative paths

Since I know, that You set it up the old ways.
Why not copy Your 1.5.3 to a stick and simply test its portability

AFAIK by default no absolute paths since? I think since 1.1.x. Unless You have changed default location e.g. to bookmarks.html or so to non default places.

If the profiles location is ./Program Files/K-Meleon/profiles/... (=the whole install with profiles)
You could right away copy the whole bold section to any place. Even rename it...
For usb I'd clear cache.

If profiles are in %apdata%/K-Meleon...
You'd have copy the folder to
/K-Meleon/profiles/... rename it to profiles and make sure that profiles.ini path= points to the right place and the whole has the same structure as if installed there.

For truly portable versions I'd always much recommend desga2's updates.
The recent ones contain file compiled with parameter
ac_add_options --with-user-appdir=""
Which do not create empty K-Meleon or Mozilla profile dir in %apdata% of host PC, if none exists. Earlier ones are resource hacked to have the same feature.

guenter,

Got you... after my last problem, I did a clean install of 1.5.3 and then rans desga2's update on top of it for single user (also manually created a profile.ini file in the app's folder. I think I can run this off of a data stick and will try that later on this weekend.

TKs.

Yes You can. AFAIK. Written with a K-M that was originally on another PC.

One of the (new) uses of the old Profiles location.

Guenter,

Yup, thanks. It works fine, aside from being slower on the usb stick.
