This is a little step back for stability, include k-meleon.exe and kplugins from KM 1.6.0a4.
Not @SHistory support, but skins/themes modified to work on Beta can work fine on Beta2 without modifications and also 1.5.4 skins.

Included Gecko 1.9.1.17pre. (from Seamonkey 2.0.11)

I see a difference in the main toolbar between beta 1 and beta 2.

In beta 2 there is an additional little icon that says KM 1.6, but I don't recognize this icon nor what it represents?

Do you mean on the top line? That wording comes from EDIT - PREFERENCES - GUI APPEARANCE - WINDOW TITLE. I have mine set to 'K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta 2'.

No, look at my previous post for Beta2... I seem to have 2 lines, the normal one on top that you are referring to and another line that I've never seen before (and that is not there on Beta 1).

It says K-Meleon 1.6.0 and is a movable icon, just like any other element in KM.

P.S. Ah, it tells you what web page you are on at the moment, in essence, somewhat like the URL: navigation dialog box.

If it is the fourth line, that is a tab, I think. If you start another tab, is it on that line?

Seams to be the same on my German XP SP3.

Backspace does not work as in the previous version, K-Meleon does not move back to load the previous page.

Is this intended?

Only handle it, modify the behavior of the Backspace key because in some hateful pages like Facebook or Tweeter, which is used Flash for some applications such as chat, using the backspace key to correct a text written in text boxes loading the page before. To avoid this bad I decided to move the accelerator to go the back page to SHIFT+Backspace in the version 1.6.0 Beta2.
You can change this behavior in the \K-Meleon1.6_Beta2\defaults\settings\accel.cfg, where you can find the following code in lines 77 and 78:

# VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK
SHIFT VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK

To restore the previous behavior by modifying these lines:

VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK
# SHIFT VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK
