K-Meleon 1.7.0 alfa2 is the alfa version with features updated to 1.6.0 Beta2.
This is experimental and is based on Firefox 3.6.13.
Included Gecko 1.9.2.14pre.
Note that this have same features like 1.6.0 Beta2 but also the same bugs, please not report 1.7.0 bugs already known or from 1.6.0 Beta2.
+ Fixed close/exit crash.

I was adding Policy Manager to 1.7 alpha2 and I get an error.
I have tried three times. The third time I went back to extensions central and downloaded a new copy of the 7z file. The system loaded OK in 1.6 beta2.
Thx for the new version. So far no problems - except for the not remembering of the passwords. Is there a solution for that?

You can try to copy this files from KM 1.6 Beta2:
\components\wallet.dll
\components\wallet.xpt
And remember delete this files:
\components\compreg.dat
\components\xpti.dat

screw Policy Manager. it was just so cumbersome to use in K-meleon, in my opinion.
I'm better off with using newer versions of ABP and noscript for K-meleon and inevitably those addons will be able to work under KM 1.7.
Seeing the message returned, it looks like an encoding problem.
I think that the last code used now must be utf-8, policy manager must be ansi.
Probably needed to rewrite it.

So the item which may need work is Policymanager.jar? Help an old guy's memory here. A jar file is just a zip file saved without compression? I would just need to re-save all parts of the jar with an editor set to use utf-8 and rebuild the jar?
Yes it's, I think like JujuLand, you need unzip the jar file and resaved all files as UTF-8 format using Notepad++ for example.
And build again the jar file (zip file without compression).

I will give that a try.
What compression do I choose when re-making the jar file. I picked 'store' but that can't be right. The file was more than twice the size as before.

Generally, jar files are just zipped without any compression, but I think it works with compressed zip (default method must be ok).
May-be we save disk size, but do we save time when executing ? I suppose we don't with old machines...

Any news whether or not Policy Manager is working after changing its file from ANSI to UTF?

I stopped work on 1.7 version. I have been using 1.6 beta2. I will go back and try to change the file again.

Did not make any change in error after changing to utf-8.
The part of the XML that fails is this:
I do not understand XML. What does the "//" chars mean? The line does not end with a semicolon.
I tried making the line a comment and also tried removing the line. The parser did not like the characters even as a comment. I tied removing the line and that seemed to work until I copied in my prefs. PM did not run at all with data.
There is some difference in the parser from 1.6 KM to 1.7 KM.

it's an encoding problem. Don't use notepad to edit these files.
Prefer an editor which knows other encodings like utf-8.

I used Notepad++ for my edit work. The thing is that ANSI and UTF8 are the same for some characters.
When I changed encoding from ANSI to UTF8 there was no change in the file. The "save" button did not go red. I had to remove a blank line at the bottom before Notepadd++ considered the file changed.
It's often like this, with all the editors I use ...
I often add a space at the end of a line, and remove it. Save is then enabled.
A detail which is important, is the encodage used by the editor when loading. If it's bad, it's often not possible to correct it.
With PsPad, for exemple, I have used a trick to open a file in the good encoding. For that, I unselect auto-determination when opening, and set also the encoding I need to use.
When opening the file, the encodage is ok, I can modify the file, and save in the good encodage.

sorry ralph. there is no KM 1.7a2 download with a setup installer program.

We need to resurrect this project! This one bad ass browser! All of the Chrome hype is just that...hype. Chrome doesn't come close for speed!
