There seems to have been an unexpected development in the IE Favorites plugin.
The Favorites bar panel in Preferences remains links even when I choose "Favorites Bar" folder and the title for the bar is no longer in English.
Your question has been in the Forums I think. But in other context and longer ago.
Chinese characters or any foreign words mean normally:
A translation source is undefined/missing in this language. I' have first seen this with a source/extension that had no English translation.
AFAIK in this case: K-Meleon falls back to the last source defined or if needed
any that is defined. I have seen this recently when an item was missing in my German translations.
If any. The one early in alphabet if there are more than one, that are defined.
But this last observation is info from past K-meleon versions.
p.s. Anyway. Dorian can answer this better. IMHO K-Meleon has a fall-backs superior to anything I have seen so far. I was much surprised some years ago when I saw my first valid translation (into another existing human language) instead of a stupid Mozilla yellow fault screen in 1.5.x times that aborted subsequent use untill restart and chrome corrections.
BTW. What do I have to do to get a spell checking service - Enlish - here,
NOW?

LOL, I second this. 99% of times I edit messages in the last months are because of grammatical errors :-( Here and other forums. I never used WordReference so much ever to check my spellings
Regarding to K-meleon 74 again. Maybe it's known already, but bookmarks plugin has another issue related to a kind of limit of characters in tree display of the title.
When the title is sooooo long (I haven't determined the number of characters), it is displayed with 2 first unkonwn UTF characters and then the rest of the title.
In the title box of each entry, the title is displayed correctly.
If you edit the title, then in the tree is displayed correctly too.
It's not happening only to old bookmarks but also new.
Example of a page with a long title to test with

I recently discovered another bug. The bug is that the Throbber is showing in a new window even though the option to have it showing is disabled. Disabling it makes it show up in the original window.

When I add page to "Favorites (ie)", the page title become garbled characters. But when I add page to "Bookmark" then it works normally.
it happens only when it is japanese page title.
then I used downgrade KM 1.54. 1.6. They works normally. I have the normal (readable ) characters.

Update works on German Systems also. XP Pro SP3.
But Opera kplugin is still saves garbled Japanese letters.
The code quotes were created with UTF-8 capable editor PSPad.
I also attached screenshot.
Opera Hotlist version 2.0

Means IMHO no real Unicode support.
Also Hotlist Bar does not work. siria reported other problems with hotlist.
Hardly anyone uses it, else some users should have noticed and complained.
Maybe drop support for this kplugin?
Bookmarks and Favorites Bar work now. Thank You for fixing.
The Japanese link above as Bookmark and IE Favorite. UTF-8 works IMHO.

1.the border has been minimised when toggle off titlebar and status bar, but a border still appears above task bar at every start, it will be gone after zooming in and maxmising the browser window, and it needs to do so again after restarts.
2.after update 3, menu bar will come back after restart even toggled off.
3.website icon could be taken sometimes by other websites', this problem has been there for a long time, maybe since km1.5

1.) Ok about Japanese.
Dorian, but You also saw that it does not make Umlaut in German XP SP3?
Bookmark reads: gütiger Gott - Englisch-Übersetzung – Linguee Wörterbuch
Hotlist reads: gütiger Gott - Englisch-Übersetzung – Linguee Wörterbuch
Bookmark reads: "très doux Dieu, - Deutsch-Übersetzung – Linguee Wörterbuch
Hotlist reads French:"très doux Dieu, - Deutsch-Übersetzung – Linguee Wörterbuch
I also showed Russian example. The plugin cannot make the Hotlist bar. No UTF-8.
siria pointed out that it can destroy data under some circumstences.
Outdated and buggy. Does Opera still use it? Maybe drop?

3.) BUG: Affects all locales. Only English en-US readme.html is found.
Path resource:///readme.html.
Reason: Other locales readme.html are in ./K-Meleon/locales/
de/readme.html.
K-Meleon searches them in URL resource:///locales/
de/readme.html
That URL has as its true path: ./K-Meleon/browser/omni.ja/locales/
de/readme.html. Red "de" stands for all supported languages. Easiest work around. Add the files to that location. I did that for all currently available locales. Works on my PC. Also updated the Russian readme.html in case they want it also.

and the rest of locales must be in ./K-Meleon/locales/xx-YY/xx-YY.jar file.

You need st least 7zip 9.30 aloha to uninstal the browser omn.ja file.
And when you repact ti with 7zip usee store as the compression as a zip file and rename it to omni.ja

I wonder if file update.locale that is omni.ja that is present in omni.ja in root folder in firefox.
Which is missing from K-Meleon 74.0RC's omni.ja in the root foldet could be causing some of the problemd with the locales when tring load readme, html through the resource.

1.) It was created by me with 7z version 9.32. Please update Your 7z.
7z 9.32 can unpack it. I am sure. I tested it after downloading it again.
I tried to make sure that it did not break during the upload.
BTW. For Mozilla "ja" files You need 7z version 9.29 or even higher anyways.
Do not click on a ja (that only works for jar). But go to open with 7z.
2.) No I not do think that it is in ./K-Meleon/browser/omni.ja. I checked the location, it is not. But it would be logocal if it can be placed there also. readme.html(en-US) is in the browser folder since the beginning of 1.8/74. Possibly because XULRunner apps have things there.
The rest of the locales must be exactly where You say.
The readme.html cannot be in ./K-Meleon/locales/.... I have tried every thing that came to my mind including writing an overeride to relocate the path to locales readme.html in K-Meleon/locales/de/. I even packed it into the de.jar file... Maybe You can find a way. I only found the workaround.
I found the location for the workaround by comparing with adodupan's early version's behavior. He used no ja file and it was was in ./browser/locales/de/readme.html. It also tried all possible locations to find it. But it was easier to find since I could copy the whole locales folder around till I found the place. The rest of the locales files worked in ./k-meleon/locales/...
Then I posted that it works there but not in official... Some months ago.
When You posted Your Spanish locales and mentioned the error I switched my brain on.:O For official it must be in the omni.ja file currently. That is the comparable behavior/location to the other versions of 1.8/74.

There is a problem in your toolbars configuration. Unlock the toolbars and change them a bit, kmeleon will rewrite the configuration and the problem should disappear.

I do not care how but that native readme.html is found.
The least time consuming method is best for me. But Dorian descids, he will tell us where it goes.
IMHO we should use what needs less of Dorian's time.
Best for that IMHO: You should submit the whole files with Your proposed changes also. You can store attachments here also - You are an Admin.
That reduces developer man hours because Dorian can use Your files.
3.) That tuxhelper.kmm is a Linux config file. We have Linux users.
The file makes mail.... configs only needed for Linux IMHO.
tuxhelper.kml. No idea why " is after =. Example:
Link URL from '=Link Adresse von'
Normally it is after the string and then = ("French String"="German String"). Maybe it is needed for Linux.

By definition K-Meleon is a Windows browser, we haven't to have or support any macro to Linux. But if we like add some type of support or macro to easy K-Meleon use in Linux, we have to integrate tuxhelper.kmm in mail.kmm macro because both macros do the same.
Only kmeleon.plugins.macros.openClient pref is setting in tuxhelper.kmm, the rest is the same that mail.kmm macro.
If Dorian is agree, I can tried to integrate tuxhelper.kmm in mail.kmm macro.

using a very older version of 7-zip would use the solid archive DOS 1.0 format which Firefox no longer uses.
They may have used it with omni.jar. but omni.ja
creating a zip file with a program that not support solid archive DOS 2.0 for storing files. May make the browser run slightly slower.

1.) If possible: Yes.
But I want/need access to Mozilla.ja and You want to look into my 7z.
Actualice el software del archivo a la versión más reciente. Por favor.
1) Wow! you are a reckless, you are using 7-zip alpha versions. 7-zip last stable version is 9.20. I'm sure you unplug the memory flash drives with out "Safely remove hardware".
People that use K-Meleon have old computers and old software, they don't updates usually and I think they not use alpha or beta versions.

3.) That tuxhelper.kmm is a Linux config file. We have Linux users.
The file makes mail.... configs only needed for Linux IMHO.
Greetings my old friend guenter.
1.) My Turion 64 CPU is from 2008. Old PC and Laptops have 2 GB RAM these days and can use Alpha software like K-Meleon 1.7 and 7z 9.32.
But also support release candiates like 74.
Yes naturally I pull the USB out normally, it is made to be pulled, is'n it?
There only is this US toy alert with no practical purpose that disturbs my peace.
I am no reckless aficionado. I do not play with the bulls but use USB.
2.) K-Meleon 74 can be used by all Windows/OS that support it. No-where it says that the Windows must be made or supported by Microsoft. The wine emulation of Windows supports 74. alain uses "Tux" and made up the wine support kmm/kml for himself and all other tux users/friends. He made that it works for him, why integrate? If it is not broken, do not fix it.
If You mean You have time and come here as dev? I will tell You my wishes.
mfG also greetings from our common friend Enaitz. We exchanged mail recently.

@guenter
I checked mail.kmm code from K-Meleon 74 RC and it seems already included tux code.
Someone Linux user can test K-Meleon 74 RC witout tuxhelper.kmm and use only mail.kmm.
Greetings.
