I did a little more tests and found the bug is related to the options of what locations should be added to the URL bar list.
In Preferences-->Browsing-->History-->URL Bar History-->Determine what locations should be added to the list, if "Any visited location" is chosen, I will get the bug after a couple of links visited. If I change the option back to "Typed URLs only", the bug will be gone.

I agree. If "Any visited location" is chosen, the page is re-loaded even when the [esc] key is pressed or if I click outside the list. I do not know if this is a bug or a feature as this is the first time I have ever tried with "Any visited location".

If the option "Open 'Typed URLs' 'In a new tab'" is chosen, a new tab will be opened if the [esc] key is pressed. So I guess it's not just re-loading the page. Kmeleon acts more like the [ENTER] key is pressed

I've updated the RC on sourceforge. No more SSE requirement (should really be good now >_<) and fixed privacy settings.
Thanks for the update Dorian, I'll check the new version later.

Sorry, but it didn't work. It just creates a profile folder with its files in it. I'm in the same K6-2 XP SP3. KM doesn't launch, no error. Is there an error log of some sort?

This problem is a bit hard to describe, so please bear with me.

I had gone back to using KM 75, but recently decided to try 76 RC again, since the only issues I had with it were with the menu icons and about:preferences, and not too critical. So I downloaded the 7z archive, but the 76 RC package has since been modified by Dorian to remove the SSE requirement, and this has led to some strange behavior on my system:

Starting with just one tab open -- my home page -- I discovered that clicking on a bookmark opened the identical URL in two new tabs at the same time. So what I wound up with was three tabs: My home page in the current tab at the left, plus two copies of the bookmarked page at the right. Looking at Preferences under Netscape Bookmarks, the "new tab" setting was checked, which was what I always had, but it was also checked for bookmarks under Browsing/General. Thinking that was a mistake, I tried selecting the "current tab" option under Netscape bookmarks, while keeping the "new tab" option for bookmarks under Browsing/General. That solved the problem, but only partially, because now the bookmark opened in the current tab (where the home page had been), and a new tab opened at the right with my home page. It should have been the other way around.

Meanwhile I've reverted to KM 75 again, but I wonder if anyone else can reproduce this issue.

I use IE favorites so I tried the new tab setting there. I first changed the setting from current tab to new tab in browsing general. Then I moved to plugins IE favorites. The setting was already changed there. Both places obviously refer to the same setting for IE favorites. I opened some favorites and each one opened in a new tab.

If you can have two different settings in Netscape bookmarks for current or new tab, then I suspect they might not be the same setting or the setting is not being read at the right time. Only Dorian would know for sure.

That's what seems so strange about it. Enabling the option under Browsing/General seemed to also enable the one under Netscape Bookmarks, but at some point one of them remained unchecked (can't remember which of the two it was). This didn't happen with the earlier 76 RC download, although that one had a somewhat similar issue in the preferences dialogue for the "show menu icons" option, which even if enabled, never showed a checkmark.

Anyway, I didn't want to bother Dorian about this after all his hard work. He must have his hands full right now.

Just a rather late update: I've disabled Netscape bookmarks in 76 RC altogether, and am using a locally stored links page instead. So far there are no other problems and 76 RC performs very well, so I can keep using it.

KM76 RC 7/1/2016 release seemed to work on my Vista SP2 system using AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (2.20Ghz) CPU with 2GB of RAM.

Edit: wow the AMD K6-2 CPU Slayer is using is truly unacceptable in 2016 and is so 1998 and has no SSE (or SSE1 support); need to find or get a used PC with an AMD K7 CPU made in 2001 or later to run KM 76RC.

I do not know for AMD, but the presence or absence of SSE (all types) fortunately do not required. And browser can work on old Intel CPUs (as Celeron, year 1998, technical data: https://yadi.sk/i/IGSusyKbsyzzH ) without the support not just SSE2, but in General SSE (as technology).

I already have a modern AMD Athlon 64 (this one). But I like to use the older one for repairing other stuff, like monitors. I have connected a LCD I just repaired to that one. It is my "lab PC", and I use it very often.

All four are opening the same page and showing the same pokemon like creature. smiling smiley

TheWorld Browser 7 (Chrome 48 based) - same thing like Yogi said: error pokemon.
KM 75.1 - content OK (K-Meleon Web Browser folder)

KM 76 RC (Firefox compatible user-agent) - error pokemon
KM 76 RC (native user-agent) - content OK

Yogi and rodocop,
I've tested in Firefox 38.8, KM74, IE8 and KM76RC about this problem, only the KM76 failed to show the entire page contents. Don't know why!
Here are the screenshots of them. https://www.datafilehost.com/d/3b6ac402

By clicking the download button I get offered a binary file (setup.exe) of 948KB instead of Test Image.7z of 281.11KB.

It's not the first time I'm downloading from DFH but it was for the first time that I overlooked the checkmark.

I've done the test again, this time with K-Meleon 75.1 and Firefox 45.2.0 (no filtering, just the default settings) with the same result (pokemon HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden).

For what it's worth, only Pale Moon 26.2x64 and IE11x32 render the PanBaidu page properly. Opera 12.17x64 doesn't get the Flash/HTML5 on the right, but that does not surprise me due to its age. KM just gets the bird.

FWIW, on DataFileHost, this is Pale Moon 26.2:

and this is KM76RC:

We do seem to have a rendering problem here.

Having said that, given that KM appears to render most sites at 98% or better, I would say that maybe these... other... sites might well have something non-standard in them. I have noticed that KM is generally fault-intolerant, which is one reason I like it.

Sigh, being curious, I couldnt resist experimenting a bit with KM1.6
Not much, and no JS, considering tons of baidu-spyware and trojans reported. And after a while got a "different" page... no bird! Still mostly empty, but probably caused by blocked JS, no idea. Anyway, if anyone wants to test further, my current test settings are (and maybe only 1 or 2 were necessary?):
- ALL cookies allowed
- ALL referers allowed (F2/privacy/paranoia)
- (all subdocuments allowed)
- UA, since you said only IE11 would work:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 11.0; Windows NT 6.1); Trident/6.0
All other stuff still blocked by default.

On the top left it shows now this:
文件名
分享时间:2014-06-01 16:55
And middle to right side 2 icons, the 3 stripes for an android menu and 4 rectangles.

Have deep tests about this baidu problem.

1) The page shows ERROR 'pokemon' at the first load at every (!) new browser tested.
Refresh shows the page.

2) All the KM versions from 1.6 up to 75.1 do show the page right.
There was 1 exception and we'll speak about it later.

3) KM 1.5.4 loads the page also partly.

4) KM76 does show only the part of the page (name of KM folder and some page GUI elements).

The main part: in all the cases when KM didn't load page well - there were NS-related errors in error console:

KM 1.5.4 - Could not convert JavaScript argument = NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS
This seems to be a reflection of an old JS-machine. It's OK for us.

KM 1.6 - Component returned failure code: 0x80520013 (NS_ERROR_FILE_READ_ONLY) [nsIDOMStorage2.getItem]
This occures only in 1 case I mentioned earlier - when webappstore.sqlite file in profile directory was set to read-only (my old security experiments inspired by dugbug).
If it was accessible for write ops - KM 1.6 always handled baidu site well.

KM 76 (all versions) - NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED
It seems like this error is the main reason of our glitch.

But I should also say that there was the second questionable point: there were errors about TLS-incompatibility:
passport.baidu.com : server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555
and in v.1.5.4 I've got an additional message about the same scripts that were mentioned in 76's error messages about NS-components:
The security error: content http://s1.pan.bdstatic.com/yun-static/??common-cdn/widget/adTips/directorTips/directorTips_5b5a228.js,common-cdn/pkg/share-link_eeccc1f.js,common-cdn/widget/docReader/docReader_a2c5869.js has no right to load data from http://pan.baidu.com/s/1o6NoHfG.

So I have 3 theories:

1. The error is related to webstorage system
2. The error is about TLS problems
3. The reason is an error in work with some NS-component (Factory??? WTF is 'factory not registered'?)

Cannot be more specific as it's far beyond my knowledge...

Another promblem reported before, please do as follows:
1. Copy the URL of a direct download link, for example: http://kmext.sourceforge.net/keih/kemNT8.1.zip
2. Paste it in the URL bar
3. Click the go button ...
Then tell me that if you could download and save the target file to your computer?

EDIT:

If you check the option of "Do this automatically for files like this from now on", for the first time you will fail, but you can success in the next.

Hokay, found something.

In https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Errors, "Error codes returned by Mozilla APIs>General Errors>The following errors are general and can occur when using any component" we find

NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)
Returned when a service could not be found.

As well, Error Console is throwing a HU-U-U-UGE list of very basic (I mean a child of ten would make these) js mistakes.

(I did try for a secure site--https--but got a "ssl_error_unsafe_negotiation" SSL error, probably generated by me having totally disabled SSL in this browser: I only use TLS now.)

Obviously I would never see anything about TLS-incompatibility on an insecure (http) site smiling smiley

Basically, PanBaidu won't load on 76 because K-M is a fault-intolerant browser, not necessarily by Dorian's design. Although I believe it takes a great deal more work and time and megabytes to provide fault tolerance, aka Quirks Mode. In this case it's because PanBaidu just build for the main-stream browsers which will try to render whatever poo they come across, regardless of the smell.
