Installation of components?

Hey!

Trying to add support for jpeg2000 and tiff using dlls provided at http://kmext.sourceforge.net/mplug.htm

Copied the dlls to the root folder of K-Meleon, and also created the components-folder just in case and did try to move the dlls to it as well. However neither method actually works. The extensions central faq states that modern K-Meleons register components automatically, but for some reason it is not working (on the latest Goanna) or the dlls themselves are not working.

This was a manual for v.1.x not 7x.

Do you have any test page to check the work of jpeg2000 support?

Yes, I linked a test page on the opening post already (https://wiesmann.codiferes.net/share/bitmaps/). It has a small test picture on each "popular" format so can easily see which types the browser is able to view and which it has to download to view in external programs. Jpeg2000 is included there.

And this is what the FAQ states:
Quote

"if you are extracting manually then you can register components by going to the K-Meleon\ components folder, locate 2 files named compreg.dat and xpti.dat and delete them. restart K-Meleon and those 2 files with be recreated and they will register the newly added components. please note that registering component files is not required for K-Meleon versions 74 and above"
So it says components should just "work" in modern K-Meleons after putting them in the folder, but it doesn't seem to be the case (or again those dlls are faulty).

those dlls cannot be load (as error console says).

So they seem to lost compatibility here and now.

Oh, alright. Should have checked the console first, somehow forgot about it existing.
Well, not like those are widespread enough to warrant any actions (can just download and view them that way).

Not sure who is in charge of the extension central website, but could maybe edit the description there that those won't work in modern versions? Just to avoid confusion of new/returning users.
